Perhaps no freshman in America is off to a faster start in college ball than UR's Billy Barber, batting .426 with 9 HR's and 31 RBI in his first 20 games with the Spiders.

According to the team web sites, this kid came out of Colonial Forge. So, how come we never heard of him on this board?

Take a look at some of the game reports featuring Barber at:

The Times-Dispatch (a/k/a "The RVA Today", Virginia's incredible shrinking newspaper) actually managed to notice Barber and did a nice write-up on him on Sat. Apparently he batted only .235 as a HS senior and was a recruited walk-on taken primarily for his role as a side-arming reliever.

Talk about getting the most out of your 11.7! What a diamond-in-the-rough find for UR!

It's a neat story, I sure hope it keeps up.
