Where Did Billy Barber Come From?

We saw Barber when he was a junior. He was pretty much just a pitcher at that time, RHP listed at 6-5/191 and threw in the low 80s. He did seem athletic but we didn’t see him perform as a position player or hitter at that event. He graded a 7.5

Late bloomers do happen! Good for him.

I've followed Billy Barber a bit, having seen him at showcases a couple summers ago. He played for the Barnstormers one summer. I was surprised that he mainly pitched his senior year, because I recall that he was quite a hitter. I'm glad he is off to a great start. Thanks for the tip!

For whatever reason, Richmond started their 3 game weekend series with La Salle yesterday, rather than Friday as usual. Anyway, Barber was at it again, this time hitting a grand slam to give him 10 homers so far.

We're what? 40% of the way into the college regular season? And this kid has enough HR's and RBI to make a push for all conference already!

The Times-Dispatch (a/k/a "The RVA Today", Virginia's incredible shrinking newspaper) actually managed to notice Barber and did a nice write-up on him on Sat. Apparently he batted only .235 as a HS senior and was a recruited walk-on taken primarily for his role as a side-arming reliever.

Talk about getting the most out of your 11.7! What a diamond-in-the-rough find for UR!

It's a neat story, I sure hope it keeps up.
