LHP ..

Prayers from sunny So Cal for your son's surgery, quick recovery and rehab, and ... should he decide to commute ... for road mercies every day.

Also will think good thoughts for your daughter as she awaits word on the opening ... our daughter-in-love is a teacher and has finally applied for her first full time position, a big step since she has always traveled with our son during spring training and season ... Teaching is a true calling from my perspective and I have the utmost admiration for the young people today who know the challenges of the profession yet still follow their hearts.
Whew! SSMom, please pass the blender. It's good to be back in here in the Ladies Lounge where it's cool and friendly. I've been doing battle with WillieBobo in the General Items forum. I should know better. I think it's hopeless, but it keeps me busy while my son's games are going on since I can't be there. Can't tell you how much it has helped to come back to this forum and feel the good vibes from moms here. LHP, prayers from my family to yours during your son's recovery and best wishes to your D-I-L on her interview. Keep us posted. BBfam - don't you just love those home runs? Congrats to your son on his success in Denver.

Ladies, ladies,...we have made it to page three!!

Ahhh yes,..the comfort of the ladies only lounge,...do I dare say it? Its a good thing!
hee hee.

We just got back from hot hot Texas & Oklahoma,..checking out various college baseball programs, etc. VERY FUN!! Great ball fields,..and one ( the BIG one ) is going under renovations to get EVEN nicer! Nothing like total motivation for my son to actually see, smell, and " taste " ( well, I swear he would have tried to actually taste the field, if I would have let him! ha!) the God-like college baseball fields. It was a fun week,...made some good memories, compacted with motivation to keep the grades up,..lots of awesome pictures for the photo albumn,..and oh man,..the FOOD!!!

So much for the smoothies,..I'm dishin' out Texas size fajitas to all,..with extra guacamole,..to those who like the green stuff!

Its good to be back,...and just in the nick of time for more football conditioning and summer baseball tryouts for 07! Geesh!

Hang in there Baseball Buzz,...my first encounter on the web was with TRHIT,..and I was a basketcase!! Thank goodness others came to my rescue and helped me out ALOT and gave me support. I was blind sided,..I learned later that some were assuming I was somebody I wasnt, who had posted before.

Looking back on it, I learned alot from that experience. I still tip toe out onto the regular forum every so often,..and take all "hostile meanies" with a grain of salt. The good seems to ALWAYS out weigh the bad,..and I have learned soo much just by reading on this site. Yes,..I'll admit it,.I have been a "lurker" and not signed in a few times! ha! Just wanted to read and soak up information anonymously, peacefully.

Not going to let a few meanies scare me from asking my questions,..even if I am new and needed a good lesson on HOW to correctly ask my questions without ruffling someones feathers. It can be tricky.

Who'd a thunk at 40+ ( I am using incorrect grammer on purpose! ) I'm still learning life lessons and theres nothing like an internet battle to remind you what your made of and how you're going to handle it.

LOVE the HSBBW,...kinda addicted to it when we are actually home and I have a minute to breath.

Okie dokie,..so I have admitted to being a lurker once in a while,.....have admitted to my addiction to the HSBBW,...must be the comfie company in here that brings this out in me,...

Dicing, slicing,..and passin' out the texas fajitas gals,...YUM! Join me?
SSmom ~ Just a tad of guacamole on my fajtas, but make it big Texas size for sure.

Sounds like I'm reading a post from me ~ lurking and reading without logging in, just to see what is happening, reading (and not replying/responding) because I don't want to be chewed up and spit out, and definitely addicted to HSBBW ~ have learned tons and tons by reading posts and articles and absolutely love connecting/hearing from friends and others who have traveled the road before. And it is sooooo much nicer (calmer, soothing, and accepting) in here.

Fajtas going fast . . . better hurry up, gals!!
Grande margarita - on the rocks - lots of salt!

Have you reserved your U-Haul yet? Daughter moves back for Round 3 in 10 days. Going into an apartment this time so there is a lot more stuff to move. I have things stored in nearly every room of our house and at our warehouse at work. Of course her apartment is upstairs - at least it's not on the 4th floor (no elevator) like her dorm was! Son is starting the last year of HS (that is the plan) - hope it is a smooth and happy year. I can't imagine him being off at college next year - he is the baby. Truly seems like I just brought them home from the hospital. Here I go getting all misty.
Hello, My first post in the ladies only, trying to get rid of the 'new' beside member and I think this one does it for me Smile

Son just finished up a showcase. He thinks he did well, they are suppose to give him feedback within a couple weeks. He is pretty sore, 6 teams, 6 catchers, 60+ pitchers = a whole lot a catching, a whole lotta exposure though too. Besides getting some money for college, he's hoping to make an elite high school fall baseball team. I'll let you know how it turns out.
Redhead, Didn't mean to leave you out of the avatar question and I really like the idea of the Grande margarita Smile My son is finishing his last year of HS as well. I can't beleive it either, but his older sisters are really falling apart!

Yikes! I am addicted as well, been reading for a long time before I posted, maybe I should have read more before I posted to myself 3 times!!! Please tell them not to chew to much and the spitting well thats just ...
I'm now sober but did I hear someone say fajitas?? (that's my fork....hehehe

Welcome to the newbies and feel free to be yourself here anytime!
Glad to hear the stories and sending continued best wishes to all whether playing, packing or praying......

My son's rehab continues to go well. Strength-wise, he is a bit ahead of schedule and he should start throwing again soon. He discovered that he has a pretty mean break with a wiffle ball even left-handed since those games are the only ones he has played this summer
And although he hasn't said it, he's enjoyed being at the "plate" again. He's also been teaching some of the younger boys a better approach to hitting and seems to be working based on the balls flying around the cul-de-sac.

I have to tell you one story about the last band performance.....the boys had load in early and had gone down the street for a bite to eat. On the way back, someone stopped them and asked my son, didn't I see you play at (another club in a different part of town)?
He confirmed it was them and the guy complimented the band, asked where they were that night AND came in to watch their show.
It was their first "stranger recognition"....made their night.

Load up my plate, pass a glass of....ummm, just water....and let's keep the party going
Welcome, welcome to both Got2BMe and lovethatbaseball ~ you'll find the ladies lounge very inviting and relaxing.

My oldest is also a senior in HS this year. Can't believe he will be at college next year ~ but at least it is close to home, so we will be able to catch many games!!!

Ladies, be sure to grab a plate, have a beverage, and sit back and relax! This is definitely the place to be! Cool
Update on son. Got home at 10PM last night after ACL reconstruction. Went better than expected. Thought they might have to do some work on his maniscus (sp?) but apparently just needed trimmed. The time frame for recovery is shorter than initially expected and we had an uneventful night with a pain level of 2. His positive attitude is paying off. Another entertaining thing is we found the house we have been paying rent on for the last two months. He is soooo excited. One thing I can say is it is fairly clean for now. The other good thing is I don't think they can hurt it. I do think they have a landscaper mow the weeds. I will keep you all posted on post surgery.
LHPitcher.....thanks for the update.....sounds very positive....and think the spelling is meniscus....only know because having surgery on my left knee for same.....unfortunately I can't blame my injury on athleticism.....rather old age....

.....hope rehab goes well and he's back in the game soon.

My other news to share with you ladies......stepson has purchased a home for us in North Carolina...a retirement gift for his Dad...and I get to go along too.....I'm not going to cry so much this time when son leaves for college in Virginia.....the house will be completed in December....I've been whipping up those margaritas.....celebrating like crazy....

LHPitcher - So glad to hear that your son is through his surgery. I know as a parent, that it's a scary thing on several levels for your child to face surgery. Best of luck to him for a very fast and completely recovery!

LadyNMom - Just for reference now. When I come to visit in NC instead of HB, make those Margaritas into daiquiries! What a blessing and opportunity for you and hubby!!! I bet Brian hits that ball this fall like never before in anticipation of his fan club being present this spring! Will be marvelous for all of you!!!

LadyNmom,

Confetti,..balloons,..paaaarrrrrtaaay!! Congrats on the new home news! Man,..how AWESOME is that?...and retirement!too???!!
I think I am turning pea green!

We used to live in NC,...beautiful homes,..with biiig green spaces in between each home. Sooo pretty!! Both my boys were born there.

You're gonna looove it!!

Usually just enough snow dusting there to make the winter holidays fun, cozy, and the trees gorgeous! ( hot chocolate always taste better with a scarf and mittens on standing in white fluffy powder! )

Sooo happy for you!! Congrats and may your construction go quick and smoothly so you can get all settled in!!!

Huggzzzzzzzzzz
L-N-M ...

How delightful ... I have never been to NC but from all I have heard it is a wonderful state. Have a friend who is moving there (her son attends one of the universities in NC but can't remember which one) after 50+ years as a Cal native. (The southern coastal states and the southeastern states offer so much that us dry-skinned So Cal folks just don't appreciate)

I know you are going to enjoy that relocation. Best wishes for the forthcoming move.

I am in the same boat about moving my youngest to college in a couple of weeks. Have a story a mom told me which always remains in the back of my head. She said she took her son off to college. She did as the school instructed and pretty much took all of his stuff into the dorm room and then left. After the brief goodbye, she said she looked in her mirror as she was leaving and he was chasing her down the road crying. Now I don't believe that will happen to us because my son is pretty independent but I really don't think I could handle it if it did. I would imagine this site will be pretty busy here in the next few months.
Baseball Buzz.....thank you.....we will be in Durham.....east side......close to a large lake, but for the life of me.....can't think of the name now....and yes....let's do lunch!

Thanks to you too FBM......I'm going to miss the weather here.....but the trade offs are well worth the move......

Diamond Darling and LHPitcher.....wish I could tell you it gets easier....but it hasn't for me....not a doubt in my mind that I'll be crying next Sunday when my son leaves to start his sophomore year....never mind that we are moving closer to him in 3 months....I'm still going to cry a river....never mind that this is what I raised him for....to be independent, or that I'm so proud of him for doing well his freshman year....nope.....I'm still going to cry....and we can take that to the bank... cry
That's it, I am moving to NC!!! going to get some brownies, coffee and fluffy snow (we get ice) Whenever my kids would threaten to run away, my reply would be "OH NO, No Way Me first... " Maybe if I left before... NAH that would never work hee hee. I am just so glad to hear I am not the only one who hasn't gotten use to it... One more year with my baby, I'm gonna make the most of it, when he has time for me that is...

Glad you are moving closer to family, hoping for a speedy, non-eventful move for you & your family.
Hey Got, come on down. The snow is lovely but more often takes the form of an ice storm. Prepare for the humidity and the occasional hurricane (yes, they reach this far inland). All that said, I wouldn't live anywhere else. And don't tell LNM about the ice, humidity and hurricanes. We'll break it to her gradually. We are only telling her the good things about NC right now.
A few days ago I would have told you that it gets easier after the first year to see your son go off to college in the fall. At least it did for us. But I'm starting to feel pretty close to tears about the whole topic.

Oldest son is returning for his junior year of college. Youngest son will be heading out for his freshman year. And then the other shoe dropped: My almost-like-a-daughter (older son's girlfriend for 2-1/2 years who has become my very good friend too, and for the last 2 years has dropped over to see us whenever she missed our son too much) has decided she will also be going away to college in a few weeks. So now my hubby and I are REALLY feeling like empty nesters. I just hope the dog doesn't announce that HE is moving out!

MNMom,... one word comes to mind: motorhome!!!
( Well,..perhaps with the price of gas these days),...VW Bug.

Get going gal,...Google Rand McNally, get those internet driving directions,....scoop up the calendar, make sandwiches,..grab the cooler, and starting planning trips, trips, trips, to go visit!

If you're a working gal,..work through the 102 fever flu bug this winter (sorry MNMom co-workers,.. this mom is on a mission & has to save every single sick day for vacation to go see her kids!!!)this year.
I wonder if perhaps the campus/apartment complex would allow you to set up a tent right outside the boy's door? Hey,..its worth a try,..the idea came to me when my first born left for the Air Force this summer,..unfortunatly I suppose that wont go over well with the security officers, but ya cant blame a mom for trying!!! ha!

I'm just teasin with ya... trying to put a little smile on your face,...cause I feel your pain.

My son left two weeks after his 18th birthday ( walked away from football scholarships to go serve his country,..yes very admireable,..yaddah yaddah yaddah, but I wasnt finished with him!!! How dare him!! Didnt he know I still had a wealth of knowlege to teach him???) and I started walking the golf course twice a day,..am going to look for a new job,..am attempting to scrap book ( not sure I will EVER get that project finished,....perhaps in the year 2020).
The point is, I had to change my routine up a bit to try and take away the desperately annoying loud pain of feeling like our family was missing a HUGE piece of our puzzle.
Some people say to get a puppy,..or a kitten,..hmmmm not sure that solution is for me, but the idea is to try and stay busy,..and not old routine-busy,..a little new-routine-busy. I hope this helps or at least made you laugh a bit. No tears,..cause if you start to get tears,..I think our whole forum will need kleenex!!
Hugzzzzzzzzzzz!!!!
shortstopmom,

Thank you, and a HUGE thank you and hugs to your son for serving our country and protecting us! Wow, I don't know if I could handle it if either of my sons had chosen that path, but I am SO thankful for the young men and women who do choose to serve.

You are absolutely on target about changing the routine and adding fun activities - I have a few of those in the works. And fortunately, my baseball-playing son (oldest) goes to school only about 90 minutes away, so we get to see about half of his Home games, and some of the Away games too. Younger son will go to school close by in Minneapolis, but he is so independent we may not see him all that often. And our "almost-daughter" - she is deciding in the next week between 3 schools, with the furthest being 5 hours away. That one would be hard to take!

I know this is a good thing for all of them to spread their wings, etc., but the house is going to seem SO empty!

Shortstop Mom - Thanks for the advice about changing my routine up with something new. I have been home for 9 years raising my boys. I think it may be time to get a part-time job. I still have one in junior high, so I don't want to be tied down to a full-time job. Already started back to my exercise routine 3 times a week. Also starting Beth Moore's new Bible study of Daniel. Plus all the mom stuff: errands, wash, store, cooking, cleaning, pick-up duty after school, etc... We do plan on going up for all the home football games. That will let us see our oldest every few weeks. My little guy is really going to miss his big brother and we thought going up for football games would help us all. I'll have to think up something new in addition to all the regular stuff.
I can't say that I know what you are going through, but I may in the next year. My oldest went to school only 30 minutes away - it might as well have been 1000 for the number of times that he came home.

We will be moving to Houston right after my youngest graduates in May. Still don't know if he will be attending college in TX or GA. If he decides to stay in GA, I know that I will be worried constantly - not being able to be here should something happen and not having any "blood" family for him to depend on. He will have our extented family of friends and his old little league baseball coach, but I know I will worry.

I know that both of my boys are very self reliant and independant and can well take care of themselves, but it will still be hard if he is half way across the country from me.
There is much to be said for a young man/woman going away for school. They do learn lessons and to value things in an entirely different light.

My son was a little over four hrs away last year. He was recruited out of HS by many schools closer to home, including one that is 30 minutes away. I had much self-realization after he left how that choice (30 minutes away) would have been different from the path he chose. I know myself.... I know that I would have gone and surprised him with a casserole here and there, I would have probably taken dirty laundry home when I took that casserole, I would have probably taken the laundry back when he realized he had such and such at home that he would like to have but was way too busy to come and get......

That's just me - he would never have had to face managing his own household affairs, taking care of a dead headlight, taking care of failed brakes, shopped for groceries, expanded his cooking abilities.......

With that said, he's one and half hrs away this year! Does that make me smile? Better believe it!!! Smile He learned enough lessons last year!! Big Grin

My avatar is for Campbellsville University which is a NAIA school here in KY that my son will be attending this fall (well this weekend!).

There are lots and lots of threads around on camps and showcases. I think you will find a lot of variety in answer to your question. IMO, that's because we're all so different and come from many different locations and backgrounds and have a variety of expectations for our sons.

My son attended a couple of camps during HS and a very few local showcases. Many opportunities we felt were just moneymakers and often times other events conflicted with his game schedule. My son was one of those that would NEVER miss a game for an event for himself. Nothing wrong with doing that, it just was how he felt.

I'll give you an example of a camp at a DI that recruited my son. He went to their camp at Christmas of his junior year. They saw him play in the state tournament the spring of his junior year. We did an unofficial visit there in August before senior year. They came to one, maybe two weekends of fall ball his senior year. Then at Christmas (obviously my son didn't sign during early period), the coach sends him an email saying he'll see him at camp at Christmas. What!?!?!? You've seen him at camp and in games and you want to continue to evaluate him? We felt as they had had ample opportunity to evaluate him and that they were using the camp as a way to dangle a carrot and as a fundraiser from all the carrot eaters. We said enough!

I think you have to look at each camp opportunity and decide for yourselves what can be gained, can you afford it, could anything be lost by going (not in shape at that time), would doing something else be more beneficial (perhaps rest or some other event)......

Just got back from posting in the " Cost of recruiting" forum. Probably stuck my neck out prematurely,..but as you all know,..when I have a bee in my bonnet,..I just cant get away with writing only a few measly wise words. Gotta get all wordy and emotional,..and I forget about being politically correct. I'm going to hide in here for a while under the shelter of my gals,...

GOT2BEME,...I found some really good solid experienced advice, thoughts, etc. in my above mentioned forum. If it gets too hot over there,...or ya see my head on the chopping block, come back here for a smoothie, chocolate cake,..fajitas,..and ( newly added to the menu by BaseballBuss mom,) the ever so valueable cheeto!!
perhaps we should add some mood music to the ladies lounge!! tee hee!! Big Grin
Thanks so much for the direction to the 'Cost of recruiting' forum. A very good read indeed! Put me at ease and relieves the guilt of not dragging him all over the place! We are going to focus on the 3 that have his major and the local JUCO.

My Dad's family is back in Kansas and besides this web site I am addicted to the 'CH' food group... CHeese, CHocolate, CHeeto, CHips... LOL and if you ever swing through Ohio, I am world famous for my CHicken & dumplings Smile a little singing to go with the band perhaps.
