Where to Visit while in Az?

The Grand Canyon is great, but it is three hours away. And then when you get there, it is spectacular for an hour, but if you don't plan on hiking at least part way down, that is about it.

I would definitely go and hike. Another great trip is the Verde Valley Railroad, which is near Sedona and spectacular and (believe it or not) just as interesting and a little easier than the Grand Canyon. If you do this, make reservations in advance.

The other thing I would do for sure in Phoenix is to climb both Squaw Peak and Camelback Mountain.

Thanks jemaz appreciate the help will check this stuff out. While we were there we figured we would find the lost Dutchman's mine and stop all these silly rumors.

Prescott/SEDONA/Oak Creek Canyon/Tlaquepaque ....... you can't go wrong in that whole area. Oh, and Jerome is pretty cool, too.

Just got back from a trip to Phoenix over spring break - we took many detours and enjoyed our drive from Texas. (Not so much on the way home!!)

We absolutely loved Monument Valley and then drove to Page Arizona to take a tour of the Glen Canyon Dam - very interesting. We also enjoyed seeing Lake Powell.

On the Grand Canyon, enter through the east entrance and the crowds will not be as bad. We got to park and then walk just a few feet to see the beautiful canyon. As we got closer to the south entrance - cars were parked everywhere for the tourists to walk a long ways to see the same views we had just seen! If they had just gone 15 minutes down the road - they could have seen similar views and not parked so far away. I had read Fodors guide on the Grand Canyon.

We have visited Sedona in the past and loved it. Not so much this time - lots of road construction in the town that made the traffic horrible.
