I have been studying hitting for around 20 years, Coaching for 11 years and have been a private hitting instructor for 6 years. I have instructed over 100 players in that time and ALL I repeat ALL have vastly improved their average and power. I am quite sure I don't have all of the answers and I will be the first to say I'm not qualified to teach a MLB player, but I can help any player from 6 year olds to 18 year olds become better at hitting.
NCBall,

I have paid attention to the differences in swings much more than the similarities. It has always amazed me how so many different type of swings can produce so many fantastic results.

As for teaching - I have spent most of my time teaching monkeys how to swing. They are very athletic - are motivated by simple things (like bananas and peeled grapes) - and most importantly - can spot bs from a mile away.

No Guru!

I have coached a few players. And then I've coached a few PLAYERS! They made me look good. I've instructed both baseball and fastpitch softball players.

This fall I'm taking my business interest to a private facility. In the past I've always coached and put ALL of that money into the high school program. Now, it will go into my pocket.

I think that this topic is more important than many realize. It's kind of like those professors teaching a subject in college that have not been in that vocation for years. Some are simply out of touch. Others do attempt to put theory into practice and so, they are at least active. Still others, are hands on and they are the best in my opinion expecially when they test, retest, and then take to heart their theory and it's impact upon their students. No, it isn't as simple as see it and hit it.

CoachB- Good for you. You are doing it on the field and making a difference. Some of these gurus on here live for validity on their cyber knowledge. I saw some clips from one of these guys actually swinging and about lost it. He has no athletic ability at all and displays less with his swing. Not a pretty sight. They still don't get it and they never will. Good luck to you.
I have seen your teams play many times. My Old Man would only make efforts to see your team even when his pro-schedule was tight. And I quote "I would be better for me to watch RB's guys then be stuck doing this Gawd Damm pro coverage."

He loved scouting amatuer players....hated pro coverage, and spoke well of your team.
