Having already gone thru this I would say the fall after sophomore year. But having said that. If you can afford it. It wouldn't hurt to send him to a PG showcase to get his feet wet. Just my two cents.
Definitely the fall after the junior year is the most important. For most players, it is when the real evaluation takes place by college coaches and pro scouts.
Three very to-the-point answers to your quest above.
Consider your financial resources when selecting what to attend as showcases and camps get expensive. Also take into consideration whether you have size and/or skills that will make you a standout at these events, if not, give it a year or two. My son was a late bloomer and did not get seriour attention until the fall his senior year.
Thanks for the answers, jemaz, thay option I did not give but thought about it. Seems like it would be the summer/fall of the Soph and Jr season as most important.
The best event my son attended and benefited the most from was the Arizona Senior Fall Classic. He went as a junior and a senior. I would highly recommend this trip.
Eric, many good points have been made here. I believe that you should go to a showcase as early as possible to get comfortable with the experience and how the showcases operate. This, of course, also depends upon affordability and how you compare in size and skill to others your age as was noted above. Another benefit is you will make some new friends that you will probably see again at showcases in future years. Good luck!
I agree the AZ fall Classic after fall of Jr year. Followed up by the Sr Classic is great. But I believe you need to get a couple good showcases in there like the PG showcases. Cream will come to the top and be noticed.
IMO...I would rank the Top 5 "seasons" in the following order:
#1 - Summer after Junior year (Travel/Select) #2 - Spring of Junior year (High School) #3 - Fall of Junior year (Travel/Select) #4 - Fall of Senior year (Travel/Select) #5 - Summer after Sophomore year (Travel/Select)
Junior year is definitely still the key year despite some getting offered earlier, the overwhelming majority of kids in our area are still getting their offers summer of their Junior year or fall of their Senior year.
