Which School?

I know nothing about Alvernia. As far as Westfield State goes, my son has spoken to Coach Arra on the phone a couple of times and to be quite honest he really didn't care for the man's personality. Very gruff and very rough around the edges. My son's also been told by kids who know that Coach is a bit of a screamer too. Keep in mind that that is all heresay. If you look at his bio on their website, I think you'll see that the coach isn't very well credentialed either. I think he was an American Legion coach a few years ago prior to Westfield.

Friend of the family is a RHP at Westfield State. Loves the school and the coach. He could transfer to another program--definitely good enough--but chooses to stay.

Usually the player commits to the school not vice versa---what is this???

I guess I meant the two colleges have offered me a spot on their team. I think both are great coaches and will probably be happy with either.

Maybe its me...I know I have done the same thing when people misspeak on the site...we tend to question them instead of answer their questions. I don't think it really matters if it is the kid or Dad or a combo of both.

Anyway James with all that said I do not have specific on the programs. I'm assuming you have visited the schools and met some of your possible future teammates. The only advice I will give (which u I'm sure you've heard before) is to pick a school not only on the baseball team but on all the other aspects of the college as well. Best of Luck

Yes, it was me(the mother) the first time. I showed my son what I wrote and he wrote the second email. So this is a parent-son effort. So there you have it....

Though I know nothing about either school, I think one thing you need to reconsider before making your decision ... with the D3 schools, there is no athletic money so the burden for financing your education will depend on your family resources and any academic $$ you can get. That can be an expensive venture, and you will probably want to be very convinced that there is a good fit for you with the school itself, as well as the baseball program. I have known several players who went to a D3, eventually hung up their cleats while still in school, but loved the university/college so much that they were willing to do what was necessary to get their degrees at that school.

Also would caution that many of the D3 programs I am aware of try to get a 'commitment' from the player early in their senior year, but acceptance into the school as well as academic money is not always available till Feb/March ... perhaps you might want to keep all options open at this time so as not to discourage other coaches from contacting you. If another coach at another program believes you are committed elsewhere, he may not make any effort to follow up on you.

Just some rambling thoughts that you have probably read elsewhere on the site but thought you might wish to ponder these variables ...
