The 17s this past summer were good and the coaches were great.Had Dan Badgley, was in the Pirates organization, and Derek Golak, played for NIU, as coaches.Cant beat thefall and winter inside workouts, especially strength and speed training with Crabtree.Won a tourney and placed 2nd and third in others. Playing in 18 year old tourneys agianst good competition. The price is a little high but it includes all costs for the off season training.Dissapointed with some of the tourneys we were in,as they didnt have any scouts present, and not much exposure. The Academy stated that players will get top exposure but this wasnt true. Once the season started the Academy didnt support the 17s at all. I cant speak for the other age groups. As you can see theres pros and cons for this program.
The last time I played the White Sox Academy was when I was down in Bourbonnais in the summer of 2005. Many things can change about a team from then to now. It seems like the training is well worth it. I myself train at Play Ball USA in Des Plaines. Nothing like being ready for the spring season after workouts during the winter.

We looked at the 16's last year and were on but then elected not to participate. One reason was the drive to the facility in the off season, too long and headed into rush hour, 2 is that it seemed like the off season workouts were all group oriented from what we were told at the meeting and I would rather have him work one on one during the off season and focus on his strenghts and weaknesses. Cost I thought were too high unless you make all the workouts which takes you away from anyother sport. Last but not least was the fact that the tryoutswere some of the worst run I have ever seen, for ex, the catchers were doing their pop times with the sprinklers going off and throwing heavy wet balls to 2b. JMO.
Cant beat the winter workouts...worth every penny. provided you don't have to drive 50 miles to get there. Althought the 18's had kids from as far as Vernon Hills and Plainfeild that never missed a practice. it was a great 4 years with them....yes it is expensive but, very well worth it. heck all teams are expensive now. i mean 4 yrs ago a tourney was 300 now 700 800 900 crazy what has happened. some people are in it for the money others for the love of teaching the kids.
spike, you just pay your money and then it is up to you to attend. Of course they would rather you attend, but if you play a winter sport it is hard to do both. I find it easier to do one on one training in the winter on your schedule. One positive note on the sox academy is I was impressed that the 16 coach did say that your high school comes first, which you don't always hear. I think he was from wabonsie valley if I remember right and is now at harper and the assistant was from Mchenry co college, both seemed like good coaches but then again we didn't see them in action.
