To those "national" White Sox fans....

Today's Sun-Times had a supplement covering the WS. At page 4A of such supplement, Nike had, as its ad, an open letter to Chicago...

"There are two baeball teams in Chicago.

One is loved not just in Chicago, but nationally. A fan base as far and wide as this great country. Then you have this other team in the Southside. Whose fan base is just the Southside.

The Southside White Sox are not a popular team. You don't see kids wearing their baseball caps in NY and LA and London. They are blue collar. Nothing fancy. No frills. Just a bunch of small ballers and outcasts that found a home on the other side of town.

They are the team of their people and that's the way they play--with all heart and more heart and just when you think they've given you all the heart that they have, they give you a little more. That's the Southside for you.

So when you're watching this Series you're not just watching a baseball team. You're witnessing the collective soul of a few hundred-thousand people on one side of town.

World, meet the Southside White Sox.

Just Do It. (With the Nike symbol)

----

As a White Sox fan...Thanks, Nike.

That reminds me of the time…..

Five Chicago fans were climbing a mountain one day. Each was a fan of a
different Chicago team and each proclaimed to be the most loyal of fans to
their team.

Finally as they reached the top, the Blackhawk fan hurled himself off the
mountain, shouting, "This is for the Hawks!!!" as he fell to his doom. Not
wanting to be outdone, the Bulls fan threw himself off the mountain,
proclaiming, "This is for the greatest team of the 90s!!!" Seeing this,
the Bears fan walked over and shouted, "This is for Ditka!!!", and leapt to
his death.

The two remaining fans just looked at each other in stunned silence. After
a minute, the Sox Fan shouted, "This is for everyone on the South Side!!!"
and pushed the Cubs fan off the mountain. Wink

PAmom and Tiger Paw Mom:

I'm merely chatting with my buddy Holden in Beantown. I've read that us second tier Second City White Sox fans are only one percent or so here on the HSBBW or anywhere else for that matter. chat

I'll be good boy and go to the Illinois Forum...I know how hard it is to clean up a keyboard after someone has become ill all over it! Frown

I'll keep checking every so often for my buddy Holden though. Wink

Isn't their a ladies forum here. Maybe y'all should get away from all this lack of humility!

If PA and TPM hurry, they can brag about their Tigers and Phillies..or Pirates..or Marlins..yawn.

This little get together is called the World Series. Somehow it seems deserving of a thread on your precious forum. Geez, I thought this forum was for all of us!?

Maybe we should discuss how much you like Clemsons uni's instead? lol.

"First they blow the call then we crush the ball"
Stuff some SOX in it, soxnole! For the record, I have nothing against your Sox. They are fun to watch, and I'd take any one of them on my Pirates or my INDIANS. Matter of fact, I was initially rooting for them before you got so obnoxious. You can rub it in as much as you want --- the Sox are a talented team. But to not acknowledge that they have benefited MIGHTILY from transgressions of the men in blue in these playoffs, making them also darn LUCKY to sit where they sit right now, places you in a foolish light. If there were a "Gentlemen's Forum," you probably wouldn't be allowed to enter...
What really scares me is that my wife is rooting for the Sox--that puts her on the same train as soxnole-- now I am getting sick--I know she is way better than that--but I still love her dearly-- perhaps if she knew soxnole was a SOX fan she would switch sides

And now that I think of it --what does that say about me I am married to her ???--

One thing I will say and have said--the Sox are a good team and even with the BLUE ASSIST they are a good team--notice I said good not great-- I think their MGR is the MGR of the YEAR in both leagues

Playoffs and wild cards are great for baseball fans but it does not guarantee the two best teams make it to the WS--Personally,I liked it better for "pure baseball" with no playoffs--you played your 154 game season the the two top teams played-- when you play 154/162 games there is no luck factor--the best team wins

When you get to playoffs and BLUE ASSISTS it all gets skewed

Keep in mind the MLB talent is lower due to expansion--more teams mean more umpires and the same thing happens --umps are there that should not be --- all sports are now watered down and to pay salaries you need more TV games to get the revenue-- sad to say --that is the way it is

We have to live with it or find another sport
Umps would probably happily go back to old system and not miss doing playoff games at all.
Saw something in the paper today, the umpires pool the playoff money. The guys doing the WS only get $17,000 more than those who are on vacation golfing.
The vet umps make nice coin - not sure if it's worth extra $11,000 or so after tax to take the scrutiny & abuse we've seen this year.
