Who are these guys?

I work in a place that takes very seriously the  security of the children that we have been entrusted.

 

If your child was under 18, did you give permission to have your child's picture taken?!?  (This authorization may be hidden in the application.....I used to strike it out and initial whenever I was presented with this issue).

 

I would ask - to whomever you sent your check - who took the pictures and who was at the camp.

keewart - you bring up a good point. I personally don't take issue with stuff like this, maybe I should considering the times we live in. With that said I don't think there was any wierd stuff going on but at least by questioning the camp organizers you would find out just who the heck there were. Never fully read a school camp waiver, probably another thing I should do, never notice the picture taking reference.

I'm not concerned if someone snaps a picture.  It wasn't like he was in the shower. If Perfect Game takes a photo at a tourney or the newspaper does the same, I'm good with it.

I never minded having son's picture taken by school, PG, tourneys....shoot, he was there to get exposure!  It was the other stuff I minded (camp, gyms, etc)

If he was throwing 94, I would hope they were scouts!  I guess they can't stop them from showing up.

Colleges sometimes will let other schools coaches come to their camp....obviously there are more kids there than one school can take, so schools will work together.  It's very common for pro scouts to be at these camps.  College coaches do all they can to keep scouts happy so they'll look at their kids.  Letting them come in to these kinds of things is just a "you scratch my back...I'll scratch yours" kind of thing...it's not uncommon

many schools have other schoos coaches there. If it's a D1 school, they usu have D2 and below schools present. Hosting school usu talks to who they r interested in first. 

If they asked about sons info they may be schools interested in seeing him play in person

You are correct.  It wasn't a pitch.  It was 94 off a tee with wood.  The guy told my son he was an area scout.  The school called two days later and said he was their top position recruit now.  There weren't other schools present.  These guys were dressed in "street clothes".  Anyway...Just curious what an Area Scout is or does.  My son is a 2016 and this is our first time through the process.  Thanks!

You cannot try out for a D1 coach, it is against NCAA rules.  However, they find ways to get around the rule.  Most likely they had scouts pull the kids aside to accomplish this for the coaches (pictures so they could remember who is who).

However, I agree with others, if you had no idea who these people were you should have asked, or tell your son to be more aware.

Major D1 camps ask area JUCO and D2, as well as scouts to attend. Sometimes its because they need the help (especially when the players are not available) and sometimes to help the others out.

Area scout or associate scout.

Is it a school he's interested in?  If so check into it for academic fit. Nice to have experience w first school showing interest.
