So.. dropping son off at school on Aug22 and am heading up there Aug21 and looked at Milb schedule for Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs. They are home and playing Scranton Yanks!! - then I think the easy part is going online and buying 3 good tickets for my wife, son, and I! - surprise! -sold out except for lawn seats in center field general admission and one or two blocks of 2 seats.

So... if anyone has a son on either team that needs a care package delivered, I am your guy! Big Grin

I will probably end up waiting and dealing with the local "ticket resellers" outside Coca Cola Park if they have em.

With my eyes, center field lawn seats just aint gonna work!

I looked at StubHub for tickets that night. There are only a few available at prices from $18 to $34.

Who knew AAA ball was so expensive? Must be the free market, supply/demand doing its thing. Fireworks or some great giveaway that night? I remember the Famous Chicken would always fill the house.

I tried to look at tix at the Pig's website, but I got lost in a programming loop. A couple of other teams maxed out $12 and $13.

The fact that the Iron Pigs' facility is brand spanking new doesn't hurt, either.

Roger Dean is still relatively new, but the bloom is off the rose. That whole Abacoa area has been a bust, don't you think? Up here in Richmond, the promoters all want to do that sort of thing -- not just a ballpark, but a big redevelopment project. I keep thinking, go down to Jupiter and see if the ballpark spurred all that development it was supposed to. I guess the guy who sells the plywood boards for the movie house's windows is doing OK, though.

Cities make these huge investments, and the newness factor is gone in 2-3 years.
Midlo,
Actually, the whole idea of Abacoa has worked well. Very expensive, now is in a down turn with the real estate bust here in FL. Come Spring Training the place is bustling with activity, and Hammerhead (Marlins) games are fairly well attended, but not as well as should be being only 50 miles from the home team. Not too many really good promos, like those found in other places, but my understanding is that because the stadium is used more than any other milb stadium (two teams, 6-7 games per week in season, they meet their financial goals). It's a different situation. Spring training they clean up bigtime, with two teams playing every day. Standing room only.
Not too many Cardinals fans to be found here, and FWIW, South Florida is in love with football, NOT baseball. You might find a few hundred during the week at Cardinal games, though the box office may boast 1000+ per game (ticket presale).
On the other hand, in Springfield, the house rocks every night they are in town.
Son found the same with Batavia, not too many fans attended the home games, yet in Johnson City and Davenport, sold out ecah night.

The AAA Gwinnett Braves stadium was built this year and it is packed almost every home game. It's only about 30 min from Turner Stadium where Atlanta plays.

I know that the local Commissioners for Gwinnett sold the farm and mules to bring this farm down from Richmond. The stadium went over budget by something like $3-$5 million....who picked that up? You guessed it....the Gwinnettians! And they ain't happy about it!
