Gentlemen,

Here's a fun topic but serious in my opinion. For the life of me, I cannot understand the desire of MLB or many other organizations to wear New Era Poly/Wool hats particularly.....particularly in the summer time down here in the deep south. I remember one year one of my sons travel teams wore a hat that appeared to breath really well by The Game. The New Era hat you see literally sweat driping off the bill, salt lines all over the hat. And I think one of our boys yesterday suffered heat exhaustion yesterday likely due to his hat! Anyway, Im thinking about approaching our high school coach about a change away from the New Era poly hat. Down here in the deep south, its just too hot. Anyway, sorry for the rant. What do yall think?

Dirk,

Wool should only be used by Eskimos and northern high school and college baseball players when needed for socks or jersey.   In no way should wool be used as part of a baseball cap at anytime.  JMO.

I prefer the ugly mesh (breathable) cap that my son calls the "truck driver cap".  His high school was selling them and it was my only choice.  I wanted to support his team.    As a spectator, I prefer the full brim scout hat that can also be used for gardening, boating or mowing the lawn..  As a 50+ year man, I can get away with it.   10-20 years ago, I wouldn't have been caught dead with that hat.  But many of my tennis playing friends are getting skin conditions that I'd rather not deal with.   A cap or hat has become very necessary especially where I live (South but not deep South).  JMO.
I agree completely! The poly/wool hats are fine if a kid has ever eaten clam chowder or has actually seen a moose in the wild.

As an umpire, our association always used New Era until sizing issues made them almost impossible to purchase......one 71/4 would fit and another 7 1/4 out of the same lot was too small.....

Since then we have had Richardson and Pacific and had great results with both......more consistent sizing and finish quality...

I agree. You cant depend on their sizing for sure!
