I question whether the Yankees will even make the playoffs. They're the third best team in their division. They have huge questions at first, second, short, third, #5 starter and the entire bullpen.

The Cardinals came close last year and have the best pitching. I believe that makes them the favorite. If the Tigers solve their bullpen issues I believe they're the AL favorite.

The Red Sox will make the playoffs again. But it's hard to have the magic two years in a row. Aside from the sum of the parts being better than the individual talent last year, they also escaped being against the ropes against the Tigers and Cardinals. It was a magical season.

I dislike the Bosox and Yankees almost equally but I have no beef with RJM's projections. I'm not sold on the Braves.  I would probably swap Texas and Oakland. I guess you could make a case for picking NYY over the Rays for second wildcard but the Yankees have some big question marks in their rotation, and they've had a major reshuffling this year, and even when an influx of free agent talent does work, it can take a season for the team to gel.

AL

Red Sox, Tigers, A's for division, Rays and either Rangers or Angels for second wild card.

NL

Nationals, Cardinals, Dodgers for division, Braves and Brewers for wild cards.  As much as i would like to see Pittsburgh back in for their feel good story, I think they have gone backwards and Cincinnati did hardly anything, and as much as Hamilton will be exciting to watch, his offense will pale in comparison to what they lost in Choo, and you will see dramatic decreases in Votto's and Phillips counting stats.  Milwaukee on the other hand, quietly improved, gets Braun back, and in a short series their top three pitchers will be a tough matchup for just about everyone.  Don't have a strong feeling for the Braves, but I don't know who else to pick in NL.

Cardinals

Yeah, a homer pick, but all that good young pitching will be a year older.  I just hope it stays healthy.  If a couple young position players pan out as hope, it could make things better.

I think either Boston or Oakland in the AL.

My two surprise teams are Milwaukee and Kansas City.  Roayls have a great shot at a wild card spot.

Being a long-suffering Royals fan, there is always hope this time of year. 1985 seems SOOO LONG ago, but the Pirates give me hope.
