im just wondering if u would rather have a guy who would hit .400 drive in about 30 runs and hit 3 hr's and steal 50 bases or a guy who would hit .270 hit 50 hr's drive in 115 RBI's and have a solid OBP?? both players have good defense

Would need more info before selecting one over the other.

If both hitters had 500 at bats and because no other totals were used we hypothetically use singles and home runs for all the hits.

Hitter 1 would have 200 hits - 197 singles and 3 HRs.

Hitter 2 would have 135 hits - 85 singles and 50 HRs.

Hitter 1 accounts for 209 Total Bases. 3 HRs = 12 + 197 singles = 209 Total Bases. Even if adding the 50 SBs = 259

Hitter 2 accounts for 285 Total Bases. 50 HRs = 200 + 85 singles = 285 Total Bases.

And hitter 2 being a power hitter probably would have even more extra base hits, making the difference greater.

Sounds like a couple players everyone would want on their team. A great lead off hitter and a great 3 or 4 hole hitter.
The second one. But the reality is that a .400 hitter is not going to drive in only 30 runs no matter where you put him in the lineup. The two hitters would actually end up being pretty close to equal in production but I'd still go with the 50 home runs even though my personal bias is in favor of batting average.
