I would like to ask why threads are being closed such as IMO and others. I understand that everyone has different ideas, thoughts, understandings etc. on baseball and the way it should be played, but this is a discussion forum. Isn't it great, that regardless of agendas or more, that everyone is so interested in baseball that we have these discussions?

I for one think it's amazing that there is such interest in different levels of baseball, and would like to see them talked out. I agree that some of them have gotten confrontational and that's really not in the spirit of the game.

I'm just curious if someone could explain to me what makes a thread be closed or one to stay open.

Real nice!

I closed the PG thread out of respect for PG. I have been here for six years and those types of threads tend to bring out some zingers. Fair enough to disagree. I asked in that thread that if you disagreed with the decision to please send a pm. Now you, like workinghard who could have sent Eric a pm have brought it out into the public. Real nice.
We just recently went though this discussion why topics get closed.

It doesn't really matter does it, CD closed a thread for a reason, the topic title was about attending a PG showcase, then polling whether is was to much money or not. I don't think moderators HAVE to give reasons but he did, didn't he?

I am sure if the OP took his time, he could find many, many discussions on the topic.

Workinghard, could have sent Eric a pm with his opinion. You could have sent CD a pm with yours as well. JMO.

CD works spends a lot of time here, for any gain for himself, helping the site owner to keep a balance so the place doesn't get out of control, give him the respect for that time and effort he puts in whether you like it or not.

The problem, as I see it, that exists is that threads get deleted by a moderator before any member may even see them--why not leave the post up after you close the thread at least for a short period of time , do not delete it by moderator, so posters and readers can see what the heck is being deleted.

My personal feeling is that some,if not all.\, moderators have set themsleves up as "gods" , and just do as they please--I do not think that is right--let people know what the heck you are deleting or editing or does the "virtual world" make you feel that so "all powerful" that you can use your delete button at will?

I can tell you that on certain forums there are other threads running that can be taken as offensive if you want to see it as so.( ie the Tebow Thread which has gone from football to a battle between religions.)

I say live and let live--let the good debates and discussions begin--you cannot debate or discuss what you know about when it has been deleted. It is nice that you want to make this a "feel good' site but darn let there has to be debate and discussion and that can be done by adults without name calling

The debate and discussion aspect is what made this site what it is or have you people forgotten this all important aspect.
TR - I respect your opinion. Everyone here is allowed to disagree without fear of moderation. Our only rule is to disagree nicely or at least in a civil manner. That is not asking too much. If adults were the only members here, then your arguments about letting it be a free-for-all would carry more weight. We have kids and single-moms who come here for advice. Many of them would be intimidated to post if it were any other way.

Again, no problem that you disagree with me on this point.
TR, debate and discussion is one thing. But as of late it seems that some of these have turned out to be very confrontational on different fronts and levels.

I am a Moderator here and on another baseball site. I don't take my job for granted or lightly. It is actually a responsibility as I see it. I really struggle at times when it comes time to either deleting or removing a thread. I try to put other's thoughts and feelings before myself as to how I should handle this.

I for one don't see any Moderators on here acting as Gods. They're just doing due diligence as a Moderator. Right, wrong, or indifferent. And leaving a certain deleted thread up for an extended period of time doesn't serve any purpose at all IMO.
while i don't usually get involved in these topics. neither one of the closed threads looked bad to me. i understand that any thread can get out of hand.

i do have respect for the moderators, not an easy job. but i think that for all the threads about pg event's, they are defended well by those that have attend. which stands up better than closing discusions about them.

thank you cd and all moderators for all the time you put in here.

Hey CD and TPM,

PG and his staff have been discussed many times on here before and will be so again. There is no reason for me to PM Eric with my opinion. There was nothing controversial about it, just on what it would take for me to consider it a waste or not. This board is about given advice and opinions. Are we no longer allowed to discuss PG showcases on here any more, it has to be done in secrecy.

Leave the pro or anti abortion talk on here (a baseball website) but lock and or delete opinions given about baseball. Real nice!

Thankfully you are not a moderator here.

Perhaps you can let people know your real identity as you have several screen names. It is easy to throw bullets that way. Please do not send anymore hate-filled pm's either. Thread closed.
