What the heck the season doesn't start until February, The asst AD can run the fall why rush...it's not like they are a D-1 program with good facilities.

I'm sure in the Fall there are some nice Fall ball leagues down in VA beach the guys can join to keep in shape. OR maybe they can do like some high schools do have the Football coach be the Spring Baseball Coach... might save them some money
William & Mary has received over 100 applications. They have narrowed the search down to a reasonable number and was to begin interviews in late July. State law requires W&M to hold the job search open for a minimum of 2 weeks after the resignation was offically tendered on July 1st. I am sure that as soon as the decision is reached it will be made public.
I understand that they were required to hold job search open for 2 weeks.

I know they could not officially start the process until July 1.

The question is did they wait until July 1 and say "hey we better look for a coach". I know it was out there that Coach Farr was leaving it just seems from the outside that the process is taking too long especially with the recruiting window open now.

With over a 100 candidates pick your top ones and start the interviews July 16 (hopefully they were already doing their homework/background on their hopefuls ahead of time).

VaDad, At what point are they taking too long? Aug 15, Sept 1?
TR,

Please don't take this the wrong way but why do some AD's take so long to make a decision? Most AD's that I used to know had a short list of 5-10 potential head coaches for each sport. They would update that list 2 or 3 times each year as things changed so that if a coach resigned or something happened to the coach the AD would not be starting from square one. Is is like the business world where some CEO's are just more organized and prepared than others?

First of all it is not only the AD who is involved in the selection---the President, the AD and the Selection Committee are all involved with the President and the AD having the final say in most cases

The list you speak of may not be valid at the time of the search beginning--those coaches may be locked into where they want to be

It is not an easy process and assumpirations regarding salary should NEVER be made. I have seen instances where the socalled "asking price" was raised substantially to get the man they wanted.

Then things like field upgrade, more scholarships etc come into play
