As some of you know my son tore his PCL and MCL in his first showcase this summer. He's missed the entire showcase season. He got the good news this week it appears surgery will not be necessary. He has another appointment in two weeks where he should be cleared to start full rehab.

He's done therapy to avoid atrophy. In two weeks it will be like starting a season from a hitting and throwing standpoint plus rehab. He hopes to play the last couple of weeks of the high school's fall ball season to some feel for playing.

What I'm looking for is mid winter showcases so he can find a baseball home hopefully before having to showcase next summer after I've already put a down payment on a college where he'll be hoping he can walk on.

The plan is to contact a bunch of colleges with video in the next few weeks. I've ID'ed mid winter showcases at Northeastern University and a TPX in southern NH. My son is interested in Virginia to New England.

What other mid winter showcases are there from Virginia to New England?

RJM,
The Hit Doctor has a mid winter camp. They've had for the past 4-5 years. It is over 3 weekends, Saturday or Sunday. The have separate camps for pitchers and hitters. They usually have about 10-15 colleges each weekend, all levels.

Go to thehitdoctor.com and you will see an ad for it.

Glad to hear the good news on your son.
fillsfan made a good suggestion IMO. It's called the Mid-Atlantic College Baseball Instructional Camp. The coaches work with the kids as a group and each kid gets to work one-on-one for a few minutes with each coach as well. The colleges scheduled to be there are listed.

My 2011 son attended last year. In November, he sent emails to the coaches of those colleges he was interested in. He sent them his profile and asked which coach would be there and on which weekend. Most if not all of them responded. We knew who was going to be there on what day, and the coach already "knew" him when it was his turn to work one-on-one. As a result, he got sincere interest (more than a camp invite) from several schools in attendance.

RJM---We were in a similar situation as you were this past summer. My son got injured at the end of June and missed the rest of the summer season including SelectFest, Impact World Series, and East Cobb. He was heartbroken to say the least. Fortunately, one of the schools from this camp had been following him since last December. He ended up going on two visits to the school in the late summer. They made an offer after the second visit and he verbally committed a couple of weeks ago. For us, this camp gave us the biggest bang for the buck. Lots of exposure in a short period of time, and the coaches get to see if the player is coachable through the one-on-one. And the kids get a feel for the coach as well.
Good luck going forward. It will all work out.
NP13,
The catchers go with the pitchers. They catch the pitchers, obviously, and then hit like the position player camp.

If they are evaluated for their defense it would be during these "bullpens" for the pitchers, as I don't think they have a separate workout for catching defense. I was at the pitching portion a few years ago and the coaches stand with the pitchers watching and giving instructions. I'm sure they could evaluate a catcher during this time but it seemed to me that 95% of their attention was on the pitcher.
