JOLIET -- The WJOL Area Baseball Invite is in for a name change. After Saturday's championship game of the second annual event at Silver Cross Field, the word "Classic" will have to be inserted somewhere.

It was such a remarkable baseball game for the early season, in fact, that Joliet Township High School and Providence Catholic went home co-champions, both with their heads dripping wet but held high.

JT had Providence to its last strike in the top of the 7th with JT up 4 - 1, but Providence managed to tie up the game and hold JT in the bottom of the 7th. According to Tourney rules, the games would have ended then with the tiebreaker (total strikeouts) going to JT--but both coaches wanted to continue. In the end, severe storms put an end to the game--but it was one of the finest early season games this region has ever seen.

In the tourney, Plainfield South beatout Minooka for 3rd place in an earlier game.
