I probably posted in some of those prior threads. Very good small liberal arts school. Nice facility. I think they still only fund 4-5 scholarships. Not likely to change in the near future due to the AD.

Looked for awhile like the program was improving, but it appears to have sort of plateaued lately. I suspect they will be down again next year. Old recruiting coordinator/pitching coach recently fired. New guy should be an improvment. I'm not going to go into the head coach other than to say he could be an issue.

IF you have specific questions PM me and I will try to answer them, or put you in touch with someone who can.
Wofford is an outstanding school with great people and a very friendly, family atmosphere. All classes are taught by professors in small class sizes with a very personal touch. As for baseball, the facilities are top notch as is the conference. Alum Jerry Richardson (owner of the Carolina Panthers) has written many large checks that have built great athletic facilities. As the baseball program grows toward full funding it will struggle in the Southern Conference, but progress is being made and the new recruiting coordinator/pitching coach is highly regarded. Young head coach Todd Interdonato is in his fourth year and has improved his approach each season as he has grown into the job.

When Wofford makes a commitment to your son baseball scholarship-wise it is a four year commitment you can count on. No games, no bait and switch. They are also very good at finding ways to add academic money to the equation. These are valuable qualities of integrity and character that do not exist at every school.

Your son's choice of schools and baseball programs should be about finding the right fit. For my son, Wofford was the perfect fit. He has excelled on the field, gotten a terrific education, and made friends that will last a lifetime.

I could not have asked for a better outcome. If you have any questions, or I can provide any further info please fire away.

One of the best places anywhere to watch a game in a relaxed comfortable atmosphere. Field is very nice although it could be characterized as hitter friendly. There is a row of wooden rocking chairs overlooking the field right behind the stands behind home plate. All athletic facilities right in the middle of a picturesque campus.
Depends on what want to know.  I don't think much has changed since the posts above.   I will PM you a copy of the PM I sent to LadsDad a couple of years ago.  Natural's son graduated, so I'm not sure how often he posts here anymore.  If you have specific questions send me a PM and I will see what I can find out.  I know a number of kids that have played there recently.

Thanks

Second year experience at Wofford for our son was very positive also. Academics are tough without being overwhelming,.  He has progressed well as an athlete, a student,  and a pitcher.  Facilities are excellent for a mid major baseball team. The baseball team set a school record for wins.  The pitching coach is as good as any of the best pitching instructors in DFW.  Wofford has also been successful in expanding to a National recruiting base.  The 2015 son conference schedule will be robust with games against Vanderbilt, South Carolina, Clemson, and Pittsburgh. The only downside is the AD. He has been there 24 years and seems satisfied with the way things have always been and has not been progressive in increasing funding as fast as many would lie.
The conference schedule took a pretty good hit last year with the loss of the College of Charleston and Appalachian State.  But, they did pick up Mercer, which helps a little.

Football and basketball will always take priority at Wofford, football because it generates a little revenue, and basketball because of the success of the program.  (The AD was the basketball coach before ascending).  I am not sure how many scholarships they fund, but it used to be 4 or 5.  I will see if I can find out the current number.

One school that Wofford competes with for athletes and students is Furman.  A couple of years ago Furman made their program "fully funded."  I thought this might spur Wofford to make some changes, but I have seen no sign of that.  Since then, Furman has had budget cutbacks and they are no longer fully funded.

My first post on the site, though I've been lurking for a bit.  Good info on Wofford.  I know nothing about it other than the hoops team from some of their recent successes.  If anyone in the know would be willing to PM me with any info they deem relevant that's not already been shared publicly, I would appreciate it.  My oldest is looking at them, so trying to do some homework on this great site.  Thanks!

Coaching staff is solid and good people. Just lost RC/PC to head coaching job at D2 in SC. Son loved them, they liked him and we came late to them unfortunately. But they were honest and that is all you want. Wofford is also generous without being an athlete on scholarship. He was accepted and the money was not bad. And it was not loans like some others (looking at you C of C).

To follow up on this, Wofford has a decent sized foundation and does a pretty good job of coming up with academic money to help defray some of the costs.  This is true for ALL students.  They couldn't do it just for athletes without running afoul of the NCAA rules.  Tuition is expensive, but not as high as some of the schools they compete with, like Furman.  If your son/daughter is a high academic achiever, it may be more affordable than you might think, especially if you're in state.

Once upon a time, Wofford and Furman were viewed as elite academic schools.  That cachet has faded a little over the years.  However, they still do an excellent job at getting kids into graduate programs.  I know of 4 former baseball players who are currently in medical school.

My son is a 2016 Wofford Grad.  He is very happy with his career there and glad he did not choose to be a preferred walk on at a power 5 school.

In the past few years the team set numerous school records and funding has greatly increased.

Coaches are candid and sincere. They are technically sound and put lots of thought into summer league placements.

Plenty of pro scouts at games and Pro day is fully attended.

Buckeye. PM me and I can help you with questions. Have a son there. Great program. Everyone associated with the school and program loves it. New pitching coach is Seth Cutler-Voltz. Was at UT Martin prior. Great guy and players really like him which is important since he is filling some big shoes with Burke leaving. Josh Schulman is the volunteer assistant and will help with the pitchers as well. I would say they are a program on the rise.

I don't know Seth Culter-Voltz personally, but he played at Virginia Commonwealth University and was a volunteer assistant there as well at the beginning of his coaching career.   Nice family, from a good friend that dated his dad!  Nice to know where he wound up!

We only did a drive through at Wofford on the way home from the 15U WWBA one year.  LOVED that there were rocking chairs at the field!  Only in the south......
