Wofford is located in Spartanburg, SC, one of my favorite developing areas in the country and has a pretty tough schedule, IMO.

There conference aand play non conference teams such as NCState, UGA, USC, Georgia Tech and Clemson.

With a batting average of .303, I am not sure if I would consider that one of the best in the country but that average is much better than their .742 ERA.

I do not know much about the school but the program appears pretty competitive and that is a very important factor in making a decision.

Well, maybe not one of the best all-around offensive teams, but it is to my understanding that they led the nation in HRs. I assumed that they could use some pitching, as the ERA justifies, but I am not a pitcher. I consider myself to be much stronger defensively, and I don't believe that could hurt such a program.

uhhhh .... typo here ...

ERA of 7.42, not .742 .....

Outstanding school academically. You'll get a great education. Very small and personal. Limited number of scholarships (something like 3 or 4) to work with, so they have difficulty recruiting pitchers. It's expensive, but the education is worth it. It has an outstanding reputation. Very nice campus too.

The field is right in the heart of the campus. You can walk down to it from any direction, plop on the hill and watch a ballgame. A touch on the small side as far as dimensions go. Nice covered seating area, complete with rocking chairs (first come, first serve).

Have difficulty competing in a very tough SoCon conference with the limited scholarships. Got hot last year at the right time and won the conference tournament after finishing 9th in the regular season.

Make no mistake... this is a SMALL college. It's the second smallest college in D1. Football is a tradition down there and rules the roost. Not a bad thing, since they are rated within the top 25 in the nation in the Championship Division (formerly D1-AA).
Lafayette played them last year during spring break and got beat pretty bad 18-6 I believe. During the game our SS was talking to one of their guys after he had just banged a double and commented about Wofford ability to rake. The player on 2nd responded that they knew they were weak from a pitching standpoint so they spent the majority of their time on BP figuring the best chance they had to win games was to out slug the competition. Looks like it didn't work too well in the regular season but paid off in the tournament. The new head coach was responsible for offense so I would guess that philosophy won't change too much this year.
Agree with most everything that was said earlier, particularly by HiHardHeat. With only 4 scholarships and high tuition Wofford will probably remain in the SoCon cellar for the forseeable future. Don't expect a repeat of this year's tournament run any time soon. One thing I will add is that if a kid is strong academically he'll probably get significant non-athletic financial aid from Wofford. They're good about that.

USC Upstate, also located in Spartanburg, is going D-1 effective this year. Look for them to improve dramatically in the next few years. They will soon be THE D-1 program here, if they're not already. Hopefully this will put pressure on the Wofford administration to fully fund baseball. (If they can fund the BB Gun team, they can fund baseball).

I just returned from the TPX Top 96 Showcase in Easton, PA, that was run by Coach Interdonato. He seemed like a all-business type of guy that was committed to improving his program. He spoke of how his team lead the nation in HR's--i think that was mentioned in a previous post--and seemed like a no-nonsense coach. I am personally not interested in Wofford but it seems like a program led by a coach who knows baseball and is willing to put in lots of effort for his players.
