I've been pondering this for a while. They have the LPGA, WNBA, women's hockey teams, and women's softball teams. But why isn't there a women's football or hardball league? If girls can play hockey, why can't they play football? If they play softball, why don't they play hardball too?

I would suspect that one of the main factors ... THERE WOULDN'T BE ANY MONEY IN IT FOR THE OWNERS.

No matter how we may want to think things have changed in this society, we do not pay to watch women play professional sports. (I will not put a value on it as good or bad ... just stating my perceptions.) And if people won't pay to watch them play, a team and its owner(s) will go by the wayside.

Are any of their games on TV? Have you been to any? If so, how much do they charge and how many other people show up-and are they mostly guys Smile
Also what size fields do they play on? Do they have the bases at 90 feet? I know in the WNBA they have a smaller ball than the NBA and have a closer 3-point line, but the free-throw lane is the same size. Do they have girl umps too? I think there are or were a couple girl umps in the Majors too.
If they can come up with a successful national women's basketball league, why can't they do the same with a baseball league, especially since it's America's national pastime?
i know this is a late reply, but I wanted to let you know that there are womens leagues in the united states. There are teams in nj bergen county, philly, nyc, (we cover the five boroughs long island and westchester) washington dc, rhode island, also a few out on the west in colorado.
We play on a regulation sized baseball field, wood or aluminum bats. (though our outfield is HUGE Wink )
The answer to why no professional baseball, honestly the level of play is not up there yet for that. There is a national team that competes against other countries like japan, australia, canada and on occasion dominican republic.
We have to encourage more young girls to come out and play baseball, but most of them are encouraged to play fastpitch softball ;(
