I was wondering what most of you guys would think if Highschool made a rule that everyone had to use wood bats, banning metal bats. Would make the game alot more interesting...

Wood Bats are the wave of the future....
batters are becoming too good and too strong, the risk of injury to infielders and especially pitchers is increasing. Not to mention, if our common goal is to play in the Major Leagues where they use wood, why not just make it uniform that way scouts will see how well players handle wood instead of having them realize years later that a batting average was inflated due to aluminum.....even though i support the change until they change the rules I would encourage all players to use aluminum in regular season games (in training leagues, such as fall ball, a wood bat would be beneficial in building up strength). Don't put yourself at a disadvantage when it comes to being scouted because of you're lowered average due to a wood bat.

Could economics have any impact on whether wood is used or nt? Can companies make more wood off aluminum or metal?
I think that would be pretty cool. I use a wood bat for batting practice and I like to use it too. I like the sound and feel of hitting with a wood bat more than a metal bat.
IMO - The reason you don't see wood bats and never will is because it would slow down the game too much. Baseball is probably the least attended high school and college sport (unless you bring in kayaking).

I think it would speed the game up. Less cheap hit = quicker innings and lower scores.
And it would be safer. A local kid, JUCO pitcher at ECCC, took a shot in the head this weekend at an intrasquad game. Fractured his eyesocket and rendered his eye USELESS. His eye is being REMOVED TODAY. Reports are that the ball was traveling 150 MPH when it hit him.
How many pitchers are around with only 1 good eye? It's time to change back to the way baseball was meant to be played, with wood bats. For those who argue cost, most of today's kids buy their own bats anyway.

I agree bulldog. My son's HS team compete in woodbat tournaments during the Summer and are hosting one this Spring. I beleive it speeds up the game as well.
Was at a clinic this past weekend and asked the college coaches in attendance about wood vs aluminum when they look at a player--- to a man they said ALUMINUM--they want to see the player using what he will use in college--- I was going to do our Rhode Island Tournament in wood but after the discussions we will be aluminum --I would love to see it all go back to wood but that is a dream-- we do our showcase BP sessions in wood because I like to see how they do with it and it makes BP fun for the kids

The places you see the most college coaches all use wood bats. They might want metal but they flock to the places where they use wood.

I apoligize for my wording. When I said slow down the game what I meant was "less hitting". This in turn would produce less action in games. Spectators would not like it and therefore not attend as often resulting in poorer attendance and less appeal.
Now if you want to change the topic as to "how it affects the safety of the game" or "how scouts/college coaches perceive their use" then you make a good point.

I wish every organization that runs high school athletics, the NCAA, NAIA and NJCAA would make metal bats illegal this afternoon. The game is more fun to watch when wood bats are used (imho).
