I was talking to a local HS coach who has a state title under his belt and since we were at the same showcase we notice the same thing , during the HR derby the 13- 16yr olds were blasting 400 plus bombs into bleachers, he was like there's no way these kids should be hitting that far, for the size some of the kids had on them, note, it was open bat so they can use whatever they wanted.
which leads me to this ,that during the All American game , those same kids who were hitting bombs during the derby couldn't get the ball out of the infield , and to make it worst some tried using wood and they looked very bad.
HE also told me the year he won state, he had a stud SR prospect who was hitting bombs, and the Reds were interested in the kid, so the scouts showed up one day with 2 woods bats, and said here we want to see you hit with these, not the metal, the kid did good and is with the Reds in the minors now.
but makes me think that $400 bat is sometimes a illusion .
