Can a player that is being recruited work out for a coach at the coach's school in a one-on-one type workout. Specifically, can a coach ask a pitcher to come to his school to throw to a catcher as a "tryout". Assume this is a D1 school, no coaches from other schools are present (so it's not a clinic), and the coaches current players are not present (so the pitcher is not working out with the team). Under NCAA rules, can this be done?

Any insights would be helpful.

No, a player cannot tryout for a coach for a D1 program.
HOWEVER, the player can attend their camp if they have one and pitch in front of him and not violate any rules. Big Grin
The issue of tryouts for prospective student athletes is dealt with in section 13.11 of each of the division manuals.

Broadly speaking, D1 and D3 schools cannot have individual tryouts. D2 schools can, but there has to be a current medical evaluation, has to happen during the fall term of the high school senior year (college students considering transferring have different rules), and has to be less than 2 hours.
