Hey Everyone,

Our organization is having a once in a lifetime event; The Guinness Book of World Records Longest Baseball Game. The event will be held July 29-31st in Barre, VT and proceeds from the event will support The G.I.D.E. Organization which stands for Guidance, Involvement, Development, and Education, specializing in mentoring kids from middle school through college. The G.I.D.E. Organization is a public benefit tax exempt 501 (c) (3) non profit organization. Proceeds will also be going to the Barre Recreation Department.

Background:
In 2009, 40 players split into teams and played for 48 hours consecutively without stopping. The goal is to keep playing, regardless of the score for as long as possible. Teams will consist of 20 players each which will be cycled in at different positions throughout the event. Our strategy is to break the teams into units of 10 so that while your 10 teammates are playing you can get some sleep, food, drinks, etc. The 2009 event rose over $100,000 for a Children’s Hospital in St. Louis and their game bat is signed by all participants and is hung in the Cooperstown Baseball Hall of Fame. Bob Costa’s from ESPN and several other national media outlets were both present at the event and helped promote it.

Some of the Rules:
Players are not allowed to leave the playing area, which does not mean the field but the facility. We will provide tents, sleeping bags, food and beverages but players are not allowed to drive off the property and then come back. The rules are the same as real baseball with official baseball equipment required. Another rule is that only players present at the start of the event can participate, meaning that you cannot show up on July 30th and then just jump on a team, you must be there from the very beginning.

Players
We currently are looking to fill our roster of 40 players. All participants must pay an entry fee of $150 to participate and be 18 years of age or older(we would looking into 16 or 17 years old if they get parents consent). This fee will pay for your field rental, electricity for lights, insurance, food and drinks. This is a first come first serve basis so sending the $150 deposit is essential, note that there is a May 1st deadline. All potential players have to be approved before deposit will be accepted. While we are playing for a World Record, our ultimate goal is to raise money for our organization.

If you are interested in participating in this event, sponsoring, or want to know how you can be more involved with the event please contact me.
