Rainy day. No baseball. Time for fun.

What is the worst baseball field your son has played on. What made it bad?

What is the best field your son has played on? Obviously the big time college players, some minor leaguers and MLB'ers will have this one hands down. Then there's the rest of us.

My nomination for worst is Roberto Clemente Field in Reading, PA. The infield is like a beach, then concrete, then beach, etc.. The chain link fences on the sidelines curl up on the bottom waiting to cut up a fielder chasing a popup in foul territory. There is some grass in the outfield. If your team is the first game of the day it's important to walk the field looking for broken bottles and syringes. Make sure your windows are up and the doors locked.

The best field my son has played on is Villanova's (Big East) in Plymouth Meeting, PA. It's also used by the school district of the town the field is located. My son has played school games there.

We've played on some fields with no grass at all in the outfield. Some of the schools here in AZ don't water the outfield. It's just dry and hard. OF'ers have to be careful running in to field a ball that's going to bounce because it might bounce over their head....

However, the worst field, IMO, is the one with the football bleachers in CF and the light poles insidethe left and right field fences....If the ball goes under the bleachers it's a GR 2B...

The best fields are easy...any of the spring training complexes...
10 years ago we played a fall game in haverhill ma. the p/plate stood about 4" higher than anything around it, outfield had 6" tall grass. no fence anywhere, playground in right field.

older fella walks right through the OF w/3 older bassett hounds, you could time them w/a calender.they all had to stop more than a few times for a rest, and drop the browns off at the super bowl. when he finally gets out of play, 5 police cars drive through the out field. headed to the play ground for what appears to be a drug bust. like being on cops, game over.

3 years later younger son has a fall game same place. yup drug bust in the play ground. game over.
