If pitcher takes the sign while on the rubber with the ball in his glove and not his throwing hand with runners on base then comes to the set position before delivering the pitch. Would it be considered a balk.
I would think it would be ok if that is the normal for the pitcher and there is no imtention to deceive the runner - Post your question in the umpire forum and I'm sure you will get great advice
NO. I doesn't matter where the ball is. What might have happened is if you put your hand in your glove when you were coming set and took it out, that is a balk.
catcher09 has it right. The key word is deception. You can get away with all sorts of strange stretch routines/motions as long as this is your regular routine. Your coach may even want to give the plate umpire the heads-up regarding your strange stretch routine. However, if you stray from your normal routine and commit a deceptive move, it is a balk.
