Howdy, My name is Dan H. and I'm a 15 year old freshman pitching for Danbury High School

Heres my question
My backyard space is very limited, so pitching in my backyard doesn't serve much justice. It is about 45 feet, and if I happen to miss wild, then I'd probably hit my neighbors window.
Because of this, I havn't had much of a chance to rear back and work on my velocity.
And while playing for my high school team, I'm usually taking infield or doing BP at times i'd like to practice pitching.

So anyway, today I warmed up with a pitchback, then I set up a net[i use for hitting off my tee] and just started to pitch into it. The net was about 10 feet away.
I started to really get into it, and throwing about 90%

Would throwing a shorter distance, with the same amount of velocity and effort you could say, help me at all to increase my velocity?

Thanks for your time, sorry I tend to ramble on.

i understand your problem, im a 17 year old junior pitcher. the best thing you can do for your velocity is long toss, go to a field or big open space with a bucket of balls, get loose first, and just throw them as far as you can, make sure to try to keep them down and not throw pop ups. i learned my freshman year that you have to make a choice, do you want to be a pitcher or position player. i chose pitching as thats what im better at, in college you wont play both.

I see no problem with that at all. I think the issue here is "feedback". How do you know you're throwing with the same velocity and effort? Your body can fool you sometimes. At least with long toss you can gage your effort by how far you threw.

I suggest you get a radar gun and set it up behind your net (Speedtrac X is a decent one). That way you will know immediately how well you just threw the ball.
Hey thanks guys,
Luckly, my best friend is an extrodinary catcher, he blocks balls like nobody I've ever seen in person. So I get a lot of work in with him, and he can call a good game too.
He has an excellent catching coach, which contributues to his ability.

I'll try the longtoss idea, sounds pretty good. My dad was actually planning on trying to set me up a mound in my backyard, but my mom is 110% against it LOL
