Get the ump on the shortstop side, the force play is still an easy call from there and the tag play is now made simple.

Skip, you're correct for that play. However, for the majority of the plays, the infield side give the better view. Currently baseball plays the odds and the positions U2 for the majority of the calls instead of the minority.

But, I'll bet that the supervisors will viewing tape from hundreds of games to re-evaluate that positioning over the winter.

Well, it cost the bottom of the 9th and maybe extra innings. But you can't actually win unless your team scores. I agree, it stinks that this happened and tarnished the game, and when you combine that with the failure to call the third strike on Berkman earlier in the day and the impact that had, it's an embarrassment to MLB that the guys they hand picked for the playoffs would botch things so badly.

But then again, the Yankees got another run later, so you could argue they would've won 3-2 in any event. The Twins, like the Braves, simply failed to score when they needed to, and you can't blame that on the umpires.

You can't say this call lost the game because the score was 1 - 0. The Braves could have bunted Infante over to third after the leadoff double and have a runner at third with one out. Ground ball and he probably scores that early in the game. Same thing in the fourth or fifth when Heyward started it off with a walk. Bunt him over and you have a chance at a run. No bunt - no run. Lot of what if's to be said here to blame just the call at second.
