Subtitled: Is this a waste of money?

Would you pay almost 100K for a private school education so your kid can go to a quality college. Then when the kid doesn't make the D1 college's baseball team as a walk on, let him tranfer to the local D3 he could have been accepted with C's from the local high school so he can play? It's not like he's playing for the future. The program is mediocre by local standards.

C's at a private college prep are often A's at a public school. My kids have been held to higher standard with regard to grades at their schools. With my 8 year old the grade cutoffs are 94-100 =A 87-93= B, 80-86= C. Personally I thinks it's BS with an 8 year old, but the school is affiliated with my wife's church. They have zero tolerance with regard to behavior. Personally, I think the teachers are a bunch of tight*** (self-edited) hypocrites and play favorites.

I wouldn't pay 100K for my kid to attend a private school that may or may not secure his/her placement in a top notch college. Whatever shortcomings our public education system has gets supplemented at home with mom/dad providing additional education where/as we see fit.

Since that ship has sailed in this particular case, it depends. Was the parent complicit in this Division I baseball gig as part of the package? I'm assuming junior is getting a free ride on the college gig as well (scholarships, grants, mom/dad)? If mom/dad are paying the boat, then you by all means have a say. If junior is paying the freight, let him go where he wants. Perhaps mom/dad's dream for junior's future isn't junior's dream?
