I have always felt that baseball is very much a "father son" type sport where skills are passed on beginning at an early age. Areas of the county where there are strong two parent households also seem to do well, or at least instances where the fathers are involved in their son's lives.
Areas where the dads are absent seem to have trouble even maintaining baseball programs much less being successful

You are absolutely correct. Parental involvement in all aspects of life leads to good things, or even a positive "mentor" when Dad is not around helps, but there is something about baseball where father and son are involved. With all due respect to the Mom's out there. Lord knows my wife has paid her dues.
