I found this website a couple of years ago when my son was a freshman in high school. I just finished reading a post from a high school freshman desiring to make varsity. I am a long time lurker but an infrequent poster because frankly I'm not sure what I can offer with my limited experiences. But I do want to pass this on so the newbies will KNOW that most of the information on this site is absolutely spot on. I think most of as human beings get caught up not able to see the big picture. We are a society that wants immediate gratification. Unfortunately the world rarely works out that way. A little over a year ago my son was diagnosed with a UCL tear. We were fortunate enough to get to see Dr James Andrews and the injury did not require surgery, but was able to fully recover with rehab. Fast forward a year. My 2015 just received his first D1 offer!  We were blown away. This long-winded post is not about us or to pat us on the back. I want those out there to KNOW that patience is the key.  There have been PLENTY of times that I would read a response similar to mine from one of the "old timers" and roll my eyes. It is amazing how perspectives change over time. I am in NO WAY an "old timer". As a matter of fact, so much has happened in the last 12 months, but son still has 2 more years before he goes to college. So when I look back and see all the changes and think we have TWO more years I can only shake my head. I can only hope that I can remember that this is a marathon, not a sprint to quote a poster from this site. I can't wait to see what the next 2 years hold.

Thanks YG

YoungGun: Thanks for the story and the advice and congrats!  I'm curious specifically why you were "blown away"? Was it the amount of the offer, the school, that it came as a surprise or that he had recovered from the injury so quickly and was able to garner the attention.  Just enjoy hearing these stories, as I think all of us on this site do.  Nice work by you and your son!

Thanks BucsFan. We were blown away by the fact of all the things that had transpired over the past year. From being at such a low point of not knowing if baseball career was over to receiving an offer from a D1 school. While I'm not sure anyone expects an offer we were pretty encouraged from things several coaches and scouts had told us about son. So the offer itself was more of confirmation at all the hard work does pay off. But it was a very generous offer that will require dad very little out if pocket expense for school. I know that the recruiting timeline is getting earlier and earlier but we honestly were not expecting this to happen until next summer. While son is excited he also is keenly aware that the journey has really just begun. So much more hard work to be done, but I do think that the work is a little easier once you start to see some of results of that work start to come go fruition.
Thanks for all the kind words. I think in general it is the parents that get so bent out of shape. I know my son seems to take it like water off a duck's back. Now most of that is probably because he doesn't fully understand all the implications. He has gotten a lot of attention over the past few months but he seems to be taking it all in stride. Maybe somewhere deep down he feels a little self-gratification, but he sure does a great job if hiding it. I know if I were him at 17 you would be hard pressed to tell me much. We have stressed to him that all of your success is only a moment in time and it can be gone in an instant. As crazy as it sounds his injury was probably the single BEST thing that happened to him. I really think it helps him keep it all in perspective. Anyway, thanks to all for the encouraging words.
