Good Question ! Yes I like to stick with one glove during the season, but experiment during the off-season to see if I like something better. First, I bought the Rawlings HOH PROJP20 and used it my 8th grade season. I became impatient with the break-in time and put the glove in the oven for about 20 minutes. It ruined the pocket and leather. You can still use it it, but I love the feel of a new mitt. This off-season I purchased a Rawlings GG GGPCM and used it about a month. Gold Glove Catchers Mitts are not good for handling a staff that throws 80 mph + and nasty junk. It makes framing more difficult with the cheaper, flimsier, leather. After I figured I didn't care for that model I purchased a Rawlings Pro Preferred PROS20JA and I fell in love with it. I'll have to work all off-season to get the leather ready for game-play, but what is anything worth if you don't have to work for it.
Plus I like the quality of the leather, the deer skin lining, index finger gel pad, conventional back pattern, the 33 in. circumference, and the whole craftmanship of the glove. Right now i'm sticking with this mitt for this season, but will always keep an open mind for the greatest edge and most comfortable way to play the position I live to play !!!
Ryno,
I feel the same way. Pro Preferred golves take a heck of a long time to brake in but once you do they are awesome. I bought my Pro Preferred catcher's mitt, maybe 3 or 4 years ago and I love it. It is still holding up tremendiously and it still feels like a new golve. Also, I have a question, where did you find one with an index finger pad? All the places I look don't include it unless you presonalize it. I'm not planning on personalizing my next catchers mitt, wich will definatly be a pro Preferred. Can you buy it with an index finger pad on it or do you have to personalize it to get one?

Catcher41,
All the new pro preferred catcher mitts from 2003 should come with an index finger gel pad no matter what. I think thats right? But, you can purchase them at http://www.baseballexp.com.
- PROS20JA - $249.99 (camel/black) 33" *
- PROSCM20BG - $249.99 (black/silver) 32.5" *
- PROSCM20 - $239.99 (camel) 33"
* index finger gel pad for sure, but the more recent models made of the PROSCM20 should have them because the back-up catcher on my team has one.
