My son is a 15 on very good 16u travel/showcase team for summer and fall 2010. All the players on the team are currently sophomores. The team is already planning on going to Jupitor in October, 2010 and the WWBA in July 2011.

The team is debating whether to go to the 16u WWBA or the 16u CABA World Series in July 2010, both at East Cobb. I have my own opinions, but I would like to hear some opinions from those who have already traveled these roads. I appreciate all input.

I played in the WWBA 17u and 18u for two years, and I did a CABA event one year (don't remember what age group, it was in Euclid, Ohio). The WWBA event in East Cobb in my opinion was the 2nd best event I've ever attended (behind Jupiter, which I did twice). The CABA event was a VERY distant competitor.

I will let others comment on WWBA and CABA, but I wouldn't be planning too hard about attending Jupiter. This might be the hardest tournament of all for a team to get invited to. Don't want to make it sound impossible, but if we don't know who your team is ahead of time, there is almost no chance of playing in Jupiter October of 2010. Then again maybe we do already know your team.
The scouting at the WWBA events blows the doors off CABA.

Your son is really too young to draw a lot of scouting attention just yet, but getting used to the level of competition at a WWBA event will help him to perform at his best when his time comes.

But to ask the question of a true travel baseball player: Why not do both events? Isn't that what he's on the team to do?

Definitely go to the 16u WWBA. I have sent a team there for 3 years straight and it is a great atmosphere, competition and exposure. If you truly do have a very good travel team this is the place to be in order to gain exposure for those sophomores.

Also, I would recommend going to Ft. Myers for the Underclass World Championships. If you do well in both of those tournaments and next year in the 17u WWBA I am sure that you will have a very good shot at getting invited to Jupiter when the boys are seniors.

You guys sound like the Under Armour Heat....

Good luck with your program/team. Let me know if you need any help pointing you in the right direction as to where to go and what tournaments are valuable ones for your time and $$$. You can PM me or email at dgitzen@midatlanticmets.net

PG, I meant to say Ft. Myers for the Underclass in October, 2010. Sorry for the confusion.
