The 'Game Central Okay To Brag' thread is going hot 'n heavy, and I love reading all the great starts! I was able to post in there for son's LAST trip to the bump (4IP 12Ks 1BB 1H) Today, however....not so great.....

Though we don't need to start a separate "Commiseration" thread, we all know the bad days come sometimes, too, and well -- after throwing arguably his best stuff last outing, he had some trouble finding it today. And I just have to say.......

Kid?

Where is the moment when we need it the most
You kick up the leaves and the magic is lost
They tell me your blue sky's faded to grey
They tell me your passion's gone away
And I don't need no carrying on

Stand in the line just ahead of the law
You're faking a smile with the coffee you got
You tell me your life's been way off line
You're falling to pieces every time
And I don't need no carrying on

Cause you had a bad day
You're taking one down
You sing a sad song just to turn it around
You say you don't know
You tell me don't lie
You work at a smile and you go for a ride
You had a bad day
The camera don't lie
You're coming back down and you really don't mind
You had a bad day
You had a bad day

Well you need a blue sky holiday
The point is they laugh at what you say
And I don't need no carrying on

You had a bad day
You're taking one down
You sing a sad song just to turn it around
You say you don't know
You tell me don't lie
You work at a smile and you go for a ride
You had a bad day
The camera don't lie
You're coming back down and you really don't mind
You had a bad day
You had a bad day

Sometimes the system goes on the blink and the whole thing it turns out Wrong
You might not make it back and you know that you could be well oh that Strong
Well I'm not wrong

So where is the passion when you need it the most
Oh you and I
You kick up the leaves and the magic is lost

Cause you had a bad day
You're taking one down
You sing a sad song just to turn it around
You say you don't know
You tell me don't lie
You work at a smile and you go for a ride
You had a bad day
You've seen what you like
And how does it feel for one more time
You had a bad day
You had a bad day
You had a bad day

YOU'LL BRING IT HOME NEXT TIME, BABY!!!! baseball4

If anyone else had a bad day, here's a great thread from LAST year, about this same time, and again started by me! I'd forgotten about the twelve walks in four innings game he had last spring as a freshman! He went on to do great that season, and I'm sure will do the same again.

I thought others might like to see some great advice and words of wisdom for when you have a bad outing: here's that thread link:

Krak, I think you must have been reading my mind! My son has had an awesome year-4-0, .50ERA
50Ks, 2ER in 28 innings-then last night happens! He only gave up 3hits in the 5 innings he pitched, but 4th inning was like 40 pitches long,4 walks, 1 hit batter, faced 8 batters and gave up 3 runs. He still doesn't know what exactly happened but oh well! He hung in there and ended the inning with two Ks finally. Went back for the 5th, did better except for the HR he gave up! Roll Eyes He came out of the game a little shell-shocked but he's got a good attitude and short memory Smile We lost 4-2 with only the HR being their true run scored from a hit and not a walk, etc.(yes, he walked in a run and a fly to center scored 2 he'd put on base!) It's happened before and he knows luckily to move on. Funny how some people don't understand how you can be as proud of your kid after a bad game as a good one!

Krak,

Thanks for starting this thread! I've been wondering when it would be my turn to contribute to the "My son's great outing" thread, but my reports so far would usually belong in this thread! rotlaugh

Mine is a college soph RHP and has had problems with BBs and HPBs in about half of his relief appearances so far. Last night in mid-30s temps with light snow flurries, he came in with a runner on base and 2 outs and it went like this: BB, HBP, BB, wild pitch, groundball out. The damage: 2 runs scored. He settled in and did much better the next inning, then ended the last inning 1-2-3.

It's hard for a parent to watch sometimes, but think of all that character they are building! Big Grin
MN-Mom, I'm sure J. will bounce back in short order. I remember, growing up in Michigan, trying to pitch in that weather. It's so cold it's hard to feel your grip on the ball! As soon as your weather swings the other way, you'll see the REAL deal, I have no doubt. A kid who works as hard as yours will always succeed in the end, and I'll look forward to reading about it in the Game Action/Brag thread!

Wood - maybe Ryan Seacrest will play it on AT40 for ya!! I can't sing!!! Here's what my wife looks like when I try to sing: crazy

Great thread and thanks for the words to that song, Krak. It's one of my current favorites.

My son, a sophomore RHP finally had his first college decision earlier this week - a win clap. Unfortunately, he got it because he gave up a 2 run HR in the inning he pitched (coach was pitching one pitcher per inning in that game). Fortunately, a teammate hit a 3 run HR in the bottom of his inning and pulled the team ahead again... Just the way it happens sometime, and he will take it, although I think he would have preferred to get the ND and take back that pitch Big Grin.

I'm with you Mn-Mom. My son has really struggled with control. Lots of bb's/hbp's and wild pitches in a handful of innings. Worse, control was always his strong point.
Having a hard time adjusting to bullpen and can't stay in long enough to get any rhythm because he's been so wild.
It's real tough to see - all we can do is keep encouraging and supporting them and hope they find it.
