2015 son recently received an email after a camp that was sent to a group, not him specifically, but a narrowed down group saying they are still on the radar and these are the grades/scores needed....  Any sense of how big the group is at this point?  Is he one of 50?  200? 500?  Thanks!

(he will begin making phone calls and hopefully get some of these questions answered on his own!)

Coaches send thousands of camp invites.  They typically cast a very wide net.

Camps are sources of revenue for the coaches and school.

Great advice we found here was to put sons' college lists together subjectively based on the intersection of where sons could play and where they could get admitted.  Generally you need some outside help for that (e.g., scouts, coaches, guidance counselors) as we parents tend to think very highly of our kids' capabilities.

Once you have your list of schools (we did 25 initially), then your player needs to get in front of the coaches from those schools.  This is true whether they've "invited" you to a camp or showcase or tournament or whatever...or not.  You communicate to them. And you go where they are.

If your player is being actively recruited by a school, you'll most likely know it.  Otherwise, your player is on a mailing list that tends to be very large.

Being as this was a very widely distributed e-mail, I think I can share these snippets.  If I find out otherwise, I will remove this post.

"Ideal candidates for our program have AT LEAST two AP level courses by the end of their junior year.."

"The typical GPA of our team is in the 3.8 – 4.0 range..."

"The average total SAT score on our team is in the 2000-2100 range, while the average ACT score is about 30-31."

Possibly the single most important aspect besides the grades/SATs/baseball skills is the class rigor.  Yale (and others like it) are looking for students that challenged (noted above) themselves and came away with A's.  Yale has the reputation of providing the least admissions help for athletes, and least number of athletic slots.  This was referenced in a previous Yale posting on HSBBWeb.....so hit that search button if you're interested.

They like to see a 2000 on the SAT on one sitting(no super score). I think there is a little wiggle room there(but not much) if you are quite the stud player they are seeking for that class. In the classroom excellent grades mostly 90's with a few mid to high 80's with rigorous HS course schedule. The athletic slots available for baseball have increased in recent years from 5 to 7. New president at Yale so it remains to be seen if the standards loosen a bit?
