Thanks for posting. I was just noticing that there were no threads started yet on Jeter after his big night last night. Cabbage has managed to wear #2 throughout LL, travel, HS and college ball. I wish there was an intentional correlation. I know I'm stating the obvious when I say Jeter is the poster child for on-field and clubhouse role model. I found it very intriguing to see him play such an impeccable 20 year career and, on his last game, be so overwhelmed by the moment that he hoped the ball wasn't hit to him. And what a way to go out!
As a fan of a rival, I am supposed to be a Yankee hater but he was the ringleader in making this impossible.
That entire 9th inning, and the celebration afterwards, was one of the absolute most compelling sports moments I have ever seen.
We saw him play quite a bit when my sons were younger and he was with the Columbus Clippers. It was fun sitting on the third base line and watching him play.
This is really fascinating. I must say I find the language of the scout perplexing. He was graded 30 (well below average) for hitting...and 45 (below average) for fielding, and yet he set records for both hitting and SS with the Yankees - amazing.
I also thought it was interesting that he was labeled a pull hitter...that obviously didn't continue for his professional years.
