Alright guys/gals...I really enjoy this site and reading about experiences I may or may not go through one day. I've read so many post about jr.'s high school, college and pro experiences that I thought I would share my youngest son's experience.

About a month ago we went to the city rec. dept. to sign him up for t-ball (yes, t-ball, he's 3) and they said he was too young. So we went to the county rec. dept. and they let him sign up. So, for a month now he's gone around telling everyone he's going to "play ball for the county". He makes it sound like he's an inmate. I've thrown "batting practice" to him for a year or so now and as time has drawn closer to opening day he has insisted that he wasn't playing t-ball b/c "t-ball is for girls". Last night, the night before his first practice, he puts his gear on and insists on swinging for "just 5 minutes outside". It's 30 degrees and after 9 but we let him b/c he's excited. This morning we wake up and it's raining/snowing and I break the news to him that the first day of practice will be cancelled. He says, "We'll just go to the diamond club or maybe our field is inside." He's on his third straight night of sleeping with the bat grandma bought him.

O.K.-I know this isn't what you were expecting but thought I would chime in on my "jr.'s" experiences.

Seriously, I LOVE this site and LOVE reading about "jr.'s" experiences.

cocdawg,

What a great story, and I bet it brings back fond memories for most parents here.

Bulldog 19, my oldest son received his first baseball glove (a real leather one) in the hospital when he was one day old. Smile I can picture the glove sitting in the bassinet next to our blue-blanket-swaddled newborn.

LHPMOM2012-It's funny you mention the jerseys b/c as I was reading all the post I remembered how he cherishes his jerseys. He's always trying to decide which to wear, his Gordon Beckham White Sox, Jeff Francouer or Brian McCann Braves, or his UGA baseball jersey. I think that's his hardest decision each morning. The joke around town is which jersey he'll have on when you see him.

Antz ... don't get that started again! BUT cocdawg have you ever thought ....

I remember having to stand in-line all night to get a start on the long lines we used to see in Cobb county to get "jr." into a youth league. No, I'm not crazy but that's what we parents had to do for many years as the demand was higher than the spots available to play baseball!

The Jerseys, my son has every jersey team from t-ball to college hanging neatly in his closet 23 in all. Matter of fact they are the only thinks hanging in his closet. Most of his other clothes are in piles in the corner of his room.

Fun stuff!

I remember my little guy dressing as a New York Yankee for several Halloweens in a row. Even carved the Yankee logo into our jack-o-lantern once.

What I miss most is the sound of thousands of balls bouncing off our front porch steps so junior could practice his fielding. What I would give to hear that sound just one more time......
You should definitely think about holding him back! I wish I had a time machine and could do that. I used to throw BP to my son in the living room with a nerf ball and one of those big bats, he loved it - broke a lamp or two as well. Still loves hitting and that is a strength of his game... now for the holding back part. My son's bday is August, he is the youngest in his sophomore grade - there are freshman older than him. He competes against kids more than a year older than him, believe me when your son is 15 and he is competing against kids who will turn 17 over the summer it is a BIG difference.

Keep throwing BP!
I get home tonight and break the news to him that his best friend is not going to be on his team and he tells me "That's O.K. b/c we'll trade for him like the Mets did Francouer". Then he asks me if I will keep a scorer's book for each game b/c "they don't keep score in t-ball and I need to know if we win...but don't worry dad you don't have to keep up with pitches b/c we don't pitch in t-ball". He's 3!
14+ years ago, I arrived home late after a long day. My pregnant wife told me she had a surprise for me. After handing me a little 6" fielders glove, she was looking at me with great expectations. As my mind worked feverishly trying to understand and to be thankful, the realization floored me. I had forgotten that the results of the amnio were due that day. It was a boy!

I'll forever remember that as the definition of "dense." At least she laughs about it.
