Enjoy the game StrainedOblique!

+1

Attending a WS game at Chavez Ravine has to be an awesome experience.

The Dodgers are a really, really good team and I thought they would win the WS until the Astros picked up Verlander. In my opinion, he’s the difference. I guess we’ll see tonight.

The Astros have probably stolen two games that the probabilities said they shouldn’t have won. Throw analytics and probabilities out of the window for the most part in the series because at this point it’s mostly about human will and grit and refusing to let your team lose. So far advantage Astros and when you throw in Verlander...Houston Strong prevails!

^All of the above means absolutely nothing tonight and I’m relying on dumb luck, again, just as every other baseball pundit. :-)

Enjoy the game!

I can appreciate Hinch wanting to be loyal to his starters, but there should have been no way Red dick was in the starting lineup tonight. He's looked awful at the plate this whole series, especially against lefties. Mabin should have gotten the start tonight. Don't know what we could've gotten from him but you sure knew exactly what Josh was bringing to the plate. His at bat in the 5th with runners at 2nd and 3rd with no outs and he can't even hit a ground ball to the right side to score a run instead he strikes out to bring Verlander to the plate. That was a big swing for the dodgers. Hopefully the M&M boys will repeat what they did in game 7 against the Yankees.

My dumb luck machine malfunctioned last night. It’s been recalibrated. ‘stros in 7.

That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.

The stros also malfunctioned!

LoL. True!

Honestly, the Dodgers hitters (especially Taylor and Pederson) are tougher outs right now. Maybe that changes tonight?

Those hitters are hot, and in a previous conversation, we forgive Pederson.

Tough for the opposing team to win in either stadium.

Looks like it will be a Johnny All Staff night!

I really don’t have a particular team that I hope wins. I actually like both these teams. As a pitcher’s dad, I hope Kershaw can get the post season monkey off his back tonight with something magical, sort of like what Bumgarner did a few years back for the Giants. So I will be pulling hard for him if and when he gets into the game tonight. If not, then I hope Bregman hits a “walkoff” HR in the top of extra innings.

Had runners in scoring position, didn't come through.  That's the whole story.

Actually the whole story is how these two great teams were assembled and managed.

Both teams get great athletes and find a place for them if their "primary position" is not available. Being able to play multiple positions has been particularly powerful for the Dodgers this year. (NL team) I think the other difference is home field advantage, particularly for a NL team in a  close series like this.  Thank goodness for dropping that stupid all-star game rule!

Turner's play and Bellinger's pick, Bregmen's pick on the ball down the line were spectacular, great athletes making great plays on both sides of the ball is the story IMO.

I have had Dodgers in 7 since the beginning, but it will be a battle with all hands on deck tonight, sad thing is one team has to lose tonight.

I hate second guessing managers but there’s no way I hit Kershaw there with a hit Taylor on deck. You only have limited out and you can’t give away any at this point.

Well if you're second guessing, how about starting Keyshaw instead of Darvish?

Start Alex Wood and problem solved or at least bring him 1st / 2nd inning when Darvish was showing the struggles he had the other night

Hinch is using his pitching staff to perfection tonight!

It’s part luck. Joc Pederson murdered the ball with the bases loaded in the first but right at Altuve.

Taylor scorched a ball in the second with two on but right at Correa.

Baseball can be cruel when it’s not your night to win.

Shu- go back to game 6... Stros scorched the ball too!

Yep and Taylor hits a jam-shot with an exit velo of 72 over first base.

The ball Puig hit didn’t carry like when it was 100 degrees in games one and two.

Anyone remember the discussion on here about why the Astros drafted Bregman so high a couple years ago?

There is always some luck involved in the draft. We went on record that we thought Correa was the best prospect that year.  Most had him between 5th and 10th pick.  Buxton who went with the second pick was the overwhelming choice at no. 1.  Buxton went second but received the highest bonus.  The Astros actually decided on Correa after several others turned down the deal they wanted to make.  They got Correa at a bargain price for the first over all pick and that allowed them to draft and sign McCullers.  Smart move the way things look now, but had someone else excepted their offer they wouldn't have Correa now.  They also drafted Mark Appel first overall in another year.  That one hasn't worked out yet.  There is always some luck involved when you are dealing with young players.

The PG All American Game in 2011 had quite an infield on the East Team.  Correa, Seager and Addison Russell.  Lance McCullers was the starting pitcher.  Interesting enough there was another first over all pick on that East team.  However it was Jameis Winston.  6 others on the East team have made it to the Major Leagues. BTW, the West Team won the game.  They were led by none other than Alex Bregman.  The West team had 5 other players that have made it to the Major Leagues.  In that game Joey Gallo hit one of the longest home runs ever in Petco Park as a junior in HS.  These were all players that just finished their junior year in HS and became draft eligible in 2012 (five years ago)

On the topic of late bloomers, WS MVP George Springer is one.  He just kept getting better and better from his soph year in HS through college.  And he is still getting better.  check out his profile.

Ironically, I looked up Springer’s PG profile last night because I literally knew nothing about him. He’s now listed at 6’4”/221. It’s hard to tell how large someone is sometimes on TV.

Regarding Correa, as I mentioned about a week back, I know someone who expected him to fall to their team in that 5-10 range and they were devastated when he didn’t. He also said that Correa’s ability to stick at SS was questioned because his body was a little soft.  Said he took that to heart and really worked hard to lean up his body and it was a clear sign that he took this thing seriously.

Again, great series and although nothing is guaranteed, it looks like both teams are set up nicely for the future.

RE: Late Bloomers: Our travel team coach has been around a while & told me this story about Chris Taylor (Leadoff; CF for Dodgers). Back when Chris was a rising HS Jr., he was the backup SS on his travel team. The Coach was pushing the starting SS heavily & called in several contacts including UVA to come see this kid play (not Taylor, he was sitting behind this kid).

The touted player goes out & boots 2 at SS, strikes out looking 2X. Just awful. Coach is so disgusted he puts Taylor in. Chris makes a real tough backhand play in the hole & hit a HR off the foul pole in LF (wood bat). This was at the end of the Fall. Chris was 5'8-9" maybe 140 as a rising Jr. Coach tells me he did not even invite him back to play in Spring. UVA obviously felt otherwise & he went on to UVA, was the grinder that he is & look where he is now.

His swing adjustment was talked about quite a bit during the playoffs but here’s a deeper dive:
