Advice On Transferring After/ During Freshman Year
A little background information on my recruitment. My senior year in 2018 I committed to a private D3. However, towards the end of my Spring high school season the coach that recruited me stepped down. I reached out to a local D2 university that was previously following me. This school gave me a full ride for academics and the coach expressed interest, so I came here in the fall as a walk on. Do to budget cuts (As the CIAA no longer supports baseball in conference), I was informed that the...

Tryouts for 17/18 Texas Dukes
Does the team you play for truly help you get recruited? Do they charge you extra for that recruiting help? They shouldn't. Playing for the Texas Dukes means that players get seen by college coaches and get recruited. A lot of teams say they will help you, but they are a business. The Texas Dukes is a small organization which has been helping kids get recruited for 12 years. The organization knows all of its players and their families and works side by side to help navigate and find college...

Stallions Baseball
We have a successful program helping boys develop for their high school teams and move on to play college baseball. Our website is at www.Texas-Stallions.com Our 12U team is looking for a Short Stop and a Utility player. Pitching would be a plus, but not a requirement as we are rich with high AA/AAA pitchers. The season has started and we have played 3 tournaments. League play has not yet begun. This team is going to the Cooperstown World Series in July. It will be a fun time representing...

Should Your son Play Fall Ball
Hey All, I just read this interesting article from Cressey Sports about the value, if any, to your son playing baseball in the fall. I think for most of us, many of our decisions come down to asking the right questions, and I think this article does a great job of helping us ask the right questions as it pertains to fall ball. Check it out here https://ericcressey.com/should-you-play-fall-baseball Enjoy!

ncaa and draft
Wonder if a redshirt sophomore (currently draft eligible) with 2 more years of NCAA eligibility that is being hold back his full potential to play more innings because coaches hope to play him for another 2 years (senior plus grad school) vs being drafted? How coaches promote players to the MLB scouts? Or do they? Does this affect on how scouts may be looking at his potential as a possible draftee?

Re: Tryouts for 17/18 Texas Dukes
We still have open positions. There will be no special date for tryouts as they are incorporated into team practices. The team plays on Sundays at colleges, and in some cases against the college teams. So far, the schedule includes: NCTC, Cisco, Tarleton, Brookhaven, Richland and NTCC. If you would like more information, please contact Kim Price at (214) 850-2572 or kim.price@strasburger.com

Re: ncaa and draft
I love this site and and gotten all sorts of great information. That said, I think you will not get very "accurate" answers as our question is probably just too situational. You may get some ideas, but it could almost be like stirring the pot. Probably the best thing to do is for this kid to do some asking around and try to understand the landscape. Have others been drafted out of the program? Does the program have an actual pro day? The more important questions might be whether this kid has...

Re: ncaa and draft
Yes usually 5-8 draftees every year. And yes they had a scout day back in the fall of 17. He has few requests. In our case, he can graduate in the fall18 (only needs 4 more credits). BUT ... he has 2 more years to play... I will think that coaches will take advantage of it by not promoting him to the scouts. Another question is how scouts are getting players email address/phone? I believe through coaches..Just trying to understand how it all works...it is very nerve breaking not knowing or...

Re: ncaa and draft
Every situation is unique. But coaches like their players to go to the next level. It’s good PR for recruiting. 84% of American MLBers come from the first ten rounds. Another 10% come from rounds 11-20. Everyone else is mostly likely to be Single A roster filler for a couple of years. Pitchers drafted later have a better shot than position players. Velocity is an easy measurable. It’s important to figure out where you fit versus staying in school, enjoying college ball for a couple more...

He is a freebee no scholarship (long story transfer from one scholarship to none)...2 more years to play..he is junior...Why would coaches want him to go?

Re: ncaa and draft
It has nothing to do with coaches wanting him to go, but rather teams wanting to draft him. At this point he sounds like if drafted he would be a late round sign, which means a small bonus. I say this as you have not mentioned anything about his skills. If your son has eligibility left more than likely it would serve him best to remain where he is and take some post grad classes. At this point why not just sit back and enjoy whats left of the season. Best of luck to your son.

Re: ncaa and draft
Not trying to start an argument and don't mean to sound harsh, but unless your son's team is winning 85% of their games and in first place in their league, I really doubt a coach is "holding him back" with regard to innings in order to keep him around. Coaches want to win....and that means playing the kids that give them the best chance to win. Again, if he's on a Top 10 team...and they are doing fine without him, I could see it, but the team is anything less than that, I really doubt that...

Re: ncaa and draft
Here's a little more food for thought... Take a look back at the last 5 or so years that had players drafted from his school...Where are they now...5 yrs later? Just because they "get drafted" doesn't mean they have what it takes to progress level to level or, more importantly, that they still have what a particular team NEEDS at the moment...Remember, most of these kids are fillers for a teams high $$ investment players...the "prospects"... Unless players are making marked improvement...

Re: ncaa and draft
There are 30 MLB clubs which employ area scouts who have a single job: identify players - in their area -who have at least one single MLB potential tool and sell that player to his organization. A scout who doesn't identify the talent in his area will not be employed long (and to extend the area scout's reach, the scout will develop a network of coaches [travel, HS, CC and college] and associate scouts who scour the area looking, looking, looking). (And scouts get a little bit of extra money...

Total college bust drafted in 5th round, now in majors. He went from not getting on the mound to transferring and horrible numbers (6.52 era, 1.76 whip). But he had a high velocity fastball. http://www.thebaseballcube.com...rofile.asp?ID=144198

Re: Should Your son Play Fall Ball
It's a question without any context, and the answer is more complex than what the article delineates. The question that should be posed is this: "What is the role that 2017 fall ball plays in the long term plan?" Prerequisite: a long term plan. Without that, then the player/parent is floating along without a rudder. So for you parents out there with middle schoolers and early HS players: pull together your plan.

Re: Should Your son Play Fall Ball
I read that article last night, and it made sense. Cressey is a shoulder guy, it's an easy concept to understand that the less stress on your shoulder the better your overall shoulder health will be. A tweet that he retweeted yesterday shortly after this article was "The best arm care tip you can give is not an exercise; rather, it's telling a 12-year-old not to pitch 12 months a year."

Re: Should Your son Play Fall Ball
Fall Ball is great for freshman. Gets them accustomed to the coaches, teammates, and quite frankly... its the longest tryout they will ever get. For the Upperclassman, it all depends on if it fits into their plan (see JOEMKTG's post, above).

Re: Should Your son Play Fall Ball
the article talks a lot about pitchers and innings pitched but doesn't as much discuss position players My Kid (2021) isn't playing Fall Ball this year. Instead he's focusing on getting Bigger/Stronger/Faster and working on swing mechanics. He's taking 2 straight months off from throwing and will take at least the 1st two weeks off of school from all Baseball activity just to get acclimated to high school academics and take a break from hitting Fall Ball can be a great thing, and my Kid will...

Re: Should Your son Play Fall Ball
My 2021 hasnt thrown (until this week) since 7/16. He's not a starting pitcher but does throw inning's here and there. That stretch of downtime was hard for him and is itching to get back on the field. We spent that time being a kid of course but also on the bigger/faster/stronger. He managed to put on 6 pounds during that time that he drastically needed. His HS has a fall team in which he can make 6 of the 15 games, his commitment is with his TB team which is about 8-10 games and 3-4...
