Multi sports

MrDoIT ·
Hi all, I'm new to the forum. I'm just reaching out to the community if anyone currently or had similar experiences. My son is a HS freshman and plays multi sports. We let him play the sports he likes, but his always been passionate with track field and baseball since middle school. Just a little background, he is well rounded kid , on top of his academics, and plays HS orchestra. His track and field events are 200, 400, LJ, TJ and HJ and made district meets. If it goes well he hopes to get...

Looking for a team in Indiana 18U

I broke my thumb last summer which kept me from being able to join a summer team. I am doing very well this high school season at Guerin Catholic, and have the eyes of a few smaller division one schools that want to see me in action on a travel team....

If you search you will find threads on playing multiple sports. My son played varsity soccer and baseball. He thought he was going to play varsity basketball after being the starting point guard on the freshman team. The varsity coach cut him from the program for never making “optional” workouts or playing summer basketball. The coach said he didn’t have enough time to put the proper focus on a third sport. In the summer he played travel baseball and attended a high end goalie day camp. In...

Welcome to the forum. Yes, I would say most regulars here have had similar experience. Regarding multiple sports in HS, it is great to let them play the sports that they enjoy. Whether multiple sports is realistic or not and for how long depends on the talent of the student athlete, the size, strength and depth of the HS program and whether the sports cross over at the same time of year. HS sports usually demand full commitment at least to one sport at a time. Excelling in HS sports usually...

RJM and CABBAGEDAD thank you all for the reply , and taking your time. You both are very helpful! Will just have to go through and see how far both sports goes and try our best judgement when it is time to decide which one. I'll continue digging post about multi sports. This forum is amazing.

My son also plays multiple sports. He is a junior this year. Just this year he dropped basketball from his list of soccer and baseball. He has always played 3 sports. We found that basketball was the least favorite if he had to drop one and he has focused much of his winter season working on increasing his strength and focusing on pitching. It all depends on which one he sees himself at when it comes time to think about playing at a higher level. I have watched my son grow in both soccer and...

BOF ·
Welcome. Good news: He is doing sports that require explosive development which translates well to baseball. Bad news: They are doing the same time of the year, and as far as my understanding on track it requires most of a full day to hang out for your heats. If he has national level skills in track he could keep up track and play summer ball to keep his baseball skills up in case he is one of the rare kids who could do both in college, or more likely he will probably have to chose one or...

Baseball and track together will not work in college. The seasons conflict. The few college multi sport athletes generally play one sport in the fall and one in the spring. Usually football in the fall and baseball or track in the spring.

Like anything in life, the greater you are the more options you have. Billy Hamilton 6.1-6.2 sixty types can do track & Baseball in college. If they insisted on it in the recruiting process, there would be a D1 that would step up and make it happen. for most mere mortals? No chance

Yeah. 9 Days of rest. A kid can pitch 110 and then must rest 3 days. Pretty early in the year for this. Look at this kid's log from last year: http://www.maxpreps.com/athlet...t/baseball-stats.htm This year, he was thrown 110 pitches in his first start on a cold day.

Its the kids who hit .500 in a terrible conference with a coach that marks everything as a hit that make hs stats meaningless. Ah, my bad. In that case, this is the more appropriate link,...

Re: Bluffton University

Bluffton is in the HCAC. For many years they were at the bottom of the conference. They startedbto really improve, then they had the tragic accident on the way down to florida for spring break. They have climbed back into repectabilty and usually finish in the upper half of the league. In my opinion they keep too large of a roster. Currently there are 55 listed for 2016. http://www.bluffton.edu/athlet...all/2016/roster.html Most of the players and student body are from nw Ohio, or other...

Since he is a 2017, it is pretty late in the process, but it is not too late. At this point in the process, I would get video to as many JC coaches as I could. Cabbage is right about Florida. The competition will be stiff. Get to as many showcases this summer as you can. It only takes one good performance in front of the right guy to make it happen. Good luck!
