I know its a bit taboo to resurrect a 2-year-old thread that's pretty much dead. However, I couldn't resist in this case. For those who don't remember (I presume most don't), please backtrack on this thread to a post I made on page 3, on August 17, 2010. In that post, I discuss a young man named Aaron, a wheelchair ridden local resident of Morehead City, NC who has battled cerebral palsy his entire life. I have kept in touch with a few people from Morehead City, but I haven't heard from...

Here you go Papi ... 1st -- You want to watch Rugby Union over Rugby League (2 different versions of the game). Rugby Union is the traditional game. Once you learn a few basics of the game, you'll find it a great sport to follow, and with the World Cup in New Zealand this year, 2011 should be a great year to be a Rugby fan. If you follow hockey, you'll have no problem with Rugby ... and will love the game. Rugby 101 videos: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IEQyCcageGg In the US you can watch...

There are "foul ball" hitters in MLB. Years ago, I sat with a pro scout who said this hitter was a "foul ball" hitter! The hitter's father played 10 years in the ML. Watch this video from the "Panda" http://www.pablosandoval48.com/ Bob

Re: SAT Scores and GPA
Pedropere great tip. Naviance is very helpful to establish a baseline. It has its limitations but is a good 'reality check.' OP, (and any of us looking for similar input) keep in mind that without seeing the transcript, it is very hard to make a generalization about what colleges to look at. As we all know, baseball (or any sport) can be a tipping factor for admissions but one that is VERY hard to predict. On the academic evaluation side, know that it is NOT just about the GPA, it is course...

My wife works for the largest drug company in Canada. We did our own research and also talked to the senior Pharmacists and they all said creatine like any other natural substance should be taken properly. They also said that there is no more harmful effects than any other supplement. You can take too much of just about any vitamin etc. There are also long term studies and maybe John will pipe in at some point. Don't even waste your time on this nonsense. It isn't worth your time. If you're interested, a good rebuttal is at http://www.******.com/forums/showthread.php?t=5282 There are also other several good posts on that website which do a great job or rebutting the pseudo-science of handle torque.

JJA- In NY&an's simulation, why does more back arm weight produce a quicker swing ? Why can't human's consciously feel and apply this force ? see: http://www.******.com/stuff/rotational_simulation5.wmv Ny$$an states: When measuring forces at the top hand connection to the bat ("pin joint #50),force is present at right angles to the bat which creates rotation and is the purest example of top hand torque, not dependent on muscle action. Lowering the weight of the back arm results in a...

I have heard that the pitching coach there was solid.I think he moved for other reasons. He went to Maryland, has he moved again? There were some players that left, it was discussed a lot on rivals, com When being recruited it is good to do your homework, but impossible to find out everything about a program from the inside out.I agree talking to a parent who has their son there is a good idea.

Re: Playing year round
I agree with Bob, I think in Florida we are held to a different standard of sorts. The fall is the most important time for a player to be seen by a college coach, true the pro scout will see him in the high school season. I have had many players sign college scholarships and the coach has never asked about high school baseball, by the way I am also a High School coach. Our players play from late August till end of October with maybe one event in November. Start back with High School in Jan...

Re: QUICKER FEET and RELEASE
Let me first refer you to Xan Barksdale who publishes regularly on these pages. You can do a search by poster and just put in Barksdale. Or go right to his web site: www.catching101.com . OK, so having said that, one of the better habits my catcher son got into at a young age was to play catch as though he were always positioning himself for a throw down to 2nd. What I mean by that, if words can describe, is that he tries to always shuffle his feet on receipt so that the rear foot is behind...

I would go to the ASMI web site. They have docs there who can answer questions and refer you to a good doctor who has trained at ASMI. In case you don't know who they are, any time you hear of a MLB guy getting surgery, they are the ones doing it. They are the premier medical facitility for pitchers. Here is a link to their forum site http://asmiforum.proboards21.com/index.cgi#baseball Good luck to you and your son.

Re: Need help with next step
Sounds like you've made a decent attempt to be seen however you aren't getting any interest from the schools. If nothing else happens over the next few months it will/(is?) be time to work on a development plan to get you to a 4 year school (i.e JC path). You need to find a coach that is interested in you as a player, not some "no risk" potential walk-on player. Good players and those needing a little development get overlooked all the time and they get a second chance by playing JC ball. I...

CollegeParentNoMore, right now my summer team is comprised of all SSU, SRJC and COM rising freshmen and sophomores and one rising senior. Many of the kids from my town seem to make the SRJC team with ease even if they are middle of the road, non-standout players but this is mostly my observation over the past few years. I have recently been directed to talk with the SRJC coach, from a local, as to increase my options. From this thread I have changed the direction of schools that I am seeking...

Do college coaches watch these games? IF pro scouts watch that would be a plus. Although its probebely to late you might want to go with a summer team that is playing in some showcase tournaments. You might be able to hook up with some teams in need of tournament players late summer and/or fall. My son used to play for SR Connie Mack, not sure what the choices are these days in SR, but they sometimes looked for tournament players towards the end of summer as kids dropped off the roster or...
