Clinics, Camps & Prospects Camps, Is there a Difference?
My son is a Jr. aspiring to play college baseball, we are inundated with emails from Colleges about clinics, skills camps, Fall/Winter/Summer Camps and Prospect Camps (in addition to the many 3rd party showcases and camps invites). Is there a difference between a Prospect camp and the other camps/clinics schools host and if so, what are they are should we attend only Prospect Camps? Thank you

Re: Clinics, Camps & Prospects Camps, Is there a Difference?
If your son is an identified prospect by a program and on their board they will personally invite him in a manner other than a form letter. Otherwise, they’re inviting you to help finance their spring trip. If you’re getting mailers they probably purchased the registration list from events your son signed up for. What is humorous is when receiving “saw you play at ....” and the player signed up but didn’t attend.

Re: Clinics, Camps & Prospects Camps, Is there a Difference?
All programs are different but being that your son is a junior, I would go with Prospect Camp. They are usually limited in players and instruction is given by the coaches, not others who come in to help run camps. Limit the Prospect Camp to your sons position. For example if he is a pitcher, go with Pitchers prospect camp. Just the word prospect doesn't really describe the type of camp. It should be a camp from a program that your son is interested in. Coaches like players who attend...

This response was never intended to be this long (sorry), but once I got started I decided to really expound on my feelings and experiences of athletes I know and my son's personal college camp experience. May be worth the read beyond the a-d list if you are bored. ----------- Go to any camp that will: a) Get you in front of coaches for a school(s) that you desire to attend as a student b) Matches your academic and baseball skillset c) That you can afford d) That is reasonable in distance to...

Re: Clinics, Camps & Prospects Camps, Is there a Difference?
My philosophy on this is when in doubt and you can swing it financially do it. I tell my two boys let’s not have any regrets when this is over in a few years. I’d rather them look back and say they tried and didn’t work out rather than wonder what would have happened if we would have went to a schools camp, and specially when talking about a “dream school”. It worked out for my oldest, a camp in December was where he got on the radar, they followed him the following summer and ultimately...

Re: Clinics, Camps & Prospects Camps, Is there a Difference?
The "what if" is what we are facing right now. My son has attended on P5 camp already, which an offer came out of. He has another P5 camp schedule mid January. The weekend after that another P5 school wants him to come out to their camp. The first January camp already constitutes some significant travel, but it's a school that is in my son's top 5 list. The other possible January camp is also significant travel and it's a school that recently started talking to my son. We are trying to...

Re: Clinics, Camps & Prospects Camps, Is there a Difference?
Your son is a freshman who has not played a high school game yet, correct. Your son has plenty of time. He can politely tell any coach that he isn't ready to make any decisions. Don't be afraid. He can be the one to drive the bus, not them.
