If that was the benchmark then the bar was set way too low. But of course mine would be posted against a 25 year old MLB player in about 5 minutes frame by frame. Lucky that didn't happen to him He has good thoughts he just did not demo them as I recall. Since you have access to so many comparatives why not post it again for us

Its funny, because now I am so curious so I Googled that video "See a Balk, Call a Balk" and it had a demo you could view before ordering. Since it is $29.95. and guess what the video shows?? Our exact scenario throwing ahead of the runner to second, and BEING CALLED FOR A BALK!! I guess I will have to spend the money. It is simply a balk.

Re: Balk clarification

Jimmy03 ·
I am amazed. You are introduced to the existance of a video that incorrectly identifies balks, and you decide you have to have it. Save your money and get the Evans video if you want accuracy If however, you just want to see someone who agrees with you, spend the $29.95 and watch a former MiLB umpire who was released inaccurately explaining balks as they may or may not have been called 25 years ago. It's so bad of a video, there is a scene with him speaking with a college pitching coach...

Standup--think you got away from original post (OP) and yes to a degree so to did I. Whether or not scouts more than a decade ago missed all the tools Pujols (or Vlad) brought to the table has nothing to do with my point(s) and this OP about HS player recruit videos and or websites with vids. There are CURRENTLY a lot of recruit videos online and or being sent to college coaches that IMO can do more harm than good for a lot of players. Re: A2000 Gloves

Gingerbread Man ·
Brand Preference has a lot to do with it. One pointer though, don't go into any glove (or bat for that matter) deal with the idea of making it last "at least through high school". Through experience, I have noticed that most gloves just do not last more than a few years at best if used every day. We spent over 200 dollars on a top of the line Nokona 2 years ago and even though son still uses it- it is worn out and has a hole wearing through it. I have replaced or fixed the lacing several...

Re: Best BBCOR?

Prime9 ·
There is no one BBCOR bat, or any type bat for that matter, that is the absolute BEST for all hitters. Good hitters most often choose a bat that FEELS the best to them, not the one that is perceived to have the best "pop" according to others. Sons Team is entering their second year of BBCOR use. They demo all the manufacturers bats every fall and bring in some of all the ones they prefer. From the players choices, you can see there is not one clear cut leader. Doughnutman; I am not aware of...

Buckeye 2015 ·
We had a chance to demo the Marucci Cat 5 and the Black....and also all 6 of the Eastons. The Cat 5 was the overwhelming favorite. Not one kid chose Easton....in fact a couple kids said they'd prefer to hit wood over the Easton. We didn't see any noticeable difference between the Cat 5 and the Black....certainly not enough to justify the difference in cost.

Re: What's the best BBCOR bat?

bballdad2016 ·
I have two boys playing and both have new bats for the season this year. I had both of them swing demo bats, friends bats, etc until they were absolutely positive of what they wanted and though felt best to them. Oldest went with the S1, younger son went with the LS 715. It took them about a month of swinging different bats for them to decide. I didn't steer them towards any particular bat, I'm not the one that has to step into the box with it.

So, are the things that hold the ball rubber? Do they crank down kind of like a "C" clamp? Would he have a clip of someone using it? I like using tees to work with my students, but they are limiting in a way.

Re: New bat recommendations?

RJM ·
A baseball bat is a personal thing. The right bat for one poster's son could be the wrong bat for your son. He needs to make the decision. He should try using teammate's bats to see how they feel. Sometimes at summer travel tournaments there are bat manufacturers with demo bats. I find buying just released bats to be a waste of money. Now is a great time to buy a new 2009 bat at a discount.

Re: Torque the handle?

One more comment about Mankin's demo. This is a basic physics lesson so those wanting to read about hitting - not a bad assumption since we're on a high school bulletin board nominally on the subject of hitting - go ahead and stop now. I'm just writing this because some may be interested in the physics of the swing, and it might help to clear up some of this endless churning about torque on the handle. What physicists like about Mankin's demo is the use of that pathfinder bat. The bat has a...

Re: Torque the handle?

powertoallfields ·
JJA, I try to stay open minded and think through everything you guys are saying (since I have been proven wrong once before), but there are some serious flaws in what you are saying here. One, is that you are looking at him swinging a bat with no resistance. Two, there is torque being applied. The pin being stationary (on a freely moving pivot) and the weight of the bat head being on the top end of the pivot will obviously keep moving when put in motion. This does not however resemble a real...

XV, Wrong, wrong, wrong!!! You guys know, rql, right? Played college ball ~30 years ago, very strong player, frequent internet poster on lots of sites, though perhaps not here. He had several posts a few years back on Mankin's site that at 50+ years old he could hit the ball 300+ (but not 400) feet with the one-armed swing. The guy is "non-denominational", no "camp" that he is associated with. There is no reason to doubt his claim, and even Mankin accepted it without questioning it as rql...

Coach, I would love to take a lesson from you or watch one of your lessons to see each step in the process so I can understand where you are coming from, but I doubt that's going to happen anytime soon at least. I think the only way to settle this difference of opinion between the torque or not to torque camps, would be to have the same hitter show both types of mechanics and judge the batspeed, frames from go to contact and actually ask the hitter which one feels better. The problem would...
