Advice On Transferring After/ During Freshman Year

A little background information on my recruitment. My senior year in 2018 I committed to a private D3. However, towards the end of my Spring high school season the coach that recruited me stepped down. I reached out to a local D2 university that was previously following me. This school gave me a full ride for academics and the coach expressed interest, so I came here in the fall as a walk on. Do to budget cuts (As the CIAA no longer supports baseball in conference), I was informed that the...

NCAA recruiting and transfer updates

Rick at Informed Athlete ·
I was able to listen to a conference call recorded yesterday afternoon in which NCAA Division I representatives provided updates and answered questions for a group of Division I athletic directors and conference commissioners. Based on input from the NCAA’s Chief Medical Officer and the NCAA COVID-19 Advisory Panel, we can expect that the current NCAA “Dead Period” prohibiting in-person recruiting activity will be extended beyond the current imposed date of April 15. We should learn more...

NCAA Eligibility Center and Institutional Request List (IRL)

TheToolMan ·
Over the weekend the NCAA Eligibility Center requested transcripts and ACT scores for my son. Their website states that certification does not start until an NCAA school request it. Does this mean that a college/university is interested in him and have put him on their Institutional Request List (IRL)? Also, is it possible to find out what college/university made the request, if that is the case?

NCAA Division I Contact Period begins today

Rick at Informed Athlete ·
Just a reminder - after having been in a Quiet or Dead recruiting period since Nov. 6, NCAA Division I baseball coaches enter a Contact Period today that continues until almost the end of August. Face-to-face off-campus contact will be permissible for Division I coaches with 2018 HS grads and their families or legal guardians. The only exception to that is a four-day "Dead Period" from April 9-12 (no face-to-face contact at any location) in conjunction with the opening of the Spring NLI...

IRL

Can someone please clarify for me how a player gets his name onto this list? We were reading up on the NCAA webside about this IRL, it's not clear if a player must get registered for each school of interest on the IRL or just one school can register a player for the IRL and then he's good to go for all schools (?). This is very confusing to me and seems some changes were made starting this year. Thanks in advance.

The school might provide an institutional "letter of intent" to prospects during their transition period, but they won't be able to offer an NCAA Letter of Intent to prospects until they officially become an NCAA Division II school.

Re: IRL

2017LHPscrewball ·
I think the IRL is the school's reporting and they will put a kid on the list when/if they wish to have the NCAA review eligibility. This is different than the player registering with the NCAA eligibility center and getting an initial read on eligibility for the various divisions. Does that make sense given what you have read and what you are trying to accomplish?

Re: IRL

2016lhp18 ·
Your student athlete can register with the NCAA Eligibility Center and complete the questionnaire on eligibility. The athlete will receive a clearing house ID number. Once your student athlete graduates they will request for the final transcript from the High School. The HC or RC will will then request the information from the NCAA for you student athlete information to determine eligibility.. That's how I remember the process. I hope this helps!

Thank you for your responses. The NCAA Eligibility page that explains the IRL doesn't make it very clear except that there were changes that took place in 2016. I imagine when someone is really interested in a player it will all unfold in the right order. I hope.

Be aware that there is a transition phase which usually results in the school being ineligible for post-season play for a couple years.

I had similar questions, here is the thread: http://community.hsbaseballweb...19#35365985188449319 Son is a 2017 as well and the school just reclassified last month. There is a two year waiting period for post-season play, so this year (our kids' high school senior year) and next year (their college freshman year) they will not be eligible for post season. This may be different for different schools and/or conferences.

It's permissible for college baseball coaches at all levels other than Division I. Division I coaches aren't permitted to have off-campus face-to-face contact with 2019's until July 1.

BBPlayer22, the following NCAA actions are effective Sept. 1: Cal State San Marcos, Concordia - Irvine, Concordia-Portland, Embry-Riddle (Florida), and Oklahoma Baptist become active D2 members. Westminster College in Utah moves to year 3 of the D2 transition period toward active membership. Auburn Univ-Montgomery, Biola Univ, Davenport Univ, and Purdue U Northwest move to year 2 of the D2 transition period. Also, as NYDAD mentioned, NYIT was approved as an active D2 member for this year.

A couple of D2 to D1 moves are also in the works: (1) Cal Baptist: www.cbulancers.com/news/2017/1...e.aspx?path=baseball (2) UCSD: http://ucsdguardian.org/2017/0...uture-for-going-d-1/ This is a good thing. Keep improving your velocity and try to be one of the top pitchers in your league. Get help in getting the word out to scouts. If you have pro-stuff, they will definitely take a look at you - especially a lefty with good stuff. Important thing is that you improve because an 18 year old freshman lefty with the same stuff will be looked at much closer in terms of projectability than a freshman going on 21. Good luck - you never know how much further your hard work will take you.

If you attend a Div 1 or 2 program, you can be drafted at 21 depending on your birthdate. So you do not have to put in 3 years. We have never seen you pitch so we cant give opinions on the draft, but you do sound like you have the skills. Best of luck.
