I hope I am posting this in the correct forum. My question has to do with what the rules are when a player signs a NLI at early signing period in November then gets picked in the June draft lets say 5-10 rounds. Now, we all know that this more than likely will not be life changing money in those rounds, but this player could move up after a year of seasoning. What are the rules? Can this player decide after the draft that he wants to now go to a JUCO to up his draft value? Is he tied to the D1 college because he signed that NLI?

Thanks

Tne NLI means that he can't go to another D1 school without sitting out a year. There isn't any relationship between the NCAA D1 schools and the NJCAA schools.

If he were drafted as a DFE (Draft, Follow and Evaluate) after signing his NLI, the MLB team will inform him of which JUCO they would like him to attend. If he attends a JUCO, they can follow him for his first season and sign him up to a week before the next years draft.

It's not an uncommon situation.

If he gets drafted, doesn't negotiate sucessfully with the D1 team and decides to just go to a JUCO on his own, he can re-enter the draft after his freshman season at the JUCO. Again, the NLI isn't considered, since there isn't any relationship between the NCAA and the NJCAA.
