My son is 11 years old and he played up 12U travel this season. He is #1 pitcher in his team. His batting order varied from #4 to #8. I found if he is not pitching, he will hit ball well but if he is pitching, his batting droped. The coach realized this too. That is the reason his batting order keeps changes.

My son had a tough time on hitting ball last season. Luckily, we found a wonderful retired MLB coach who helped my son in both pitching and hitting in the off season.

This season will end in less than 2 weeks for my son. We are seeking the same type off season training like last year. Unforunately, his old coach has moved to the other MLB organization. There are professional instructions over my area. But this bad economics make us hard support both pitching and hitting instructions cost.

My question is which one to take? Pitching or hitting? My son feel he is more like pitching. But we had the bad experience about sitting in the bench or always hitting last one.

Thanks for any advice.

That is a tough call teen 98. If you have a limited budget, you may need to be creative. I have a 15 yr. old son who is a pitcher and a position player. The part of his game that he needs the most work on is his hitting. However, he is an above average pitcher. We have used our resources at this point to continue to improve his pitching. Sometimes I think we should have spent more resources on hitting, but I don't really regret what we have done to this point.

We still go out and hit, we try different strategies at the plate, I may even take him somewhere during the season for hitting since he can't really take pitching lessons during the season.

I would try to figure out what it is he wants to improve most in and put your emphasis there.
I would use video and have someone very good evaluate and make suggestions. Probably a lot less expensive and eliminates scheduling concerns.

To be honest, if it's the off season and he is 11 years old, I would recommend that he participate in a different sport that is in season. He has lots of time to develop as a baseball player.
