As there has previously been discussion about Coach Jim Perry and his Garland Cubs teams, I wanted to report that his 12u Cubs team went 5-0 and won the South Plains Regional in New Mexico this weekend. They out scored their opponents 105-24 and now head to Puerto Rico August 1 for the world series.

I recall that Linty 12u Tigers teams went there last year.

This is a prime example of good things happening to good people.

Go Cubs; do Texas proud.

My son has always loved the game of baseball, but after 2 years on the Cubs with Coach Perry, he learned a respect for the game and how to play it, and how to respond in situations with class and control. Congrats to Coach Perry, the rest of his coaches, the parents and the team. Couldn't happen to a better person. Sports Junkie, you are absolutely right!!
While all the talk is about the CMWS (and rightly so), just got back from San Juan, Puerto Rico with the 12u Garland Cubs coached by Jim Perry from the Pee Wee Reese AABC World Series.

Cubs beat a good Seattle, Washington team (14-3), beat the defending WS Puerto Rico team (8-3) while losing to the 2nd place Maryland team in the last inning and this years champion from Puerto Rico (7-6). Cubs ended up 4th.

Amazing experience playing down there. The noise and atmosphere was something the boys will remember always. Police escorts everywhere they went. Bands, drums, flags, noise, samba music, beach, and more memories than they can articulate. Can only imagine what the 18u CMWS is like.

One last thing; the starting pitcher for the Puerto Rico team (and remember these are SUPPOSED to be 12u kids) was 6'4" and weighed 220lbs. They had another kid with a good looking batch of facial hair. Right..........

Just thought I'd report in given some of the earlier comments about the Cubs and Jim Perry. Jim is a good man.
