I'm 13 years and and just starting to try and lose some of my weight.
I'm 5'7 and weight 190. I am really good but i get messily singles off hits that most people get doubles off of. i am trying to get down to at least 140 and with my 60 time around 7. I am just starting my diet. I don't really have a strict diet i just keep away from sweets. I try to get 2 bottles or more a day of water. I eat atleast 1 piece of fruit per day. As of june 14 i am starting for run 1/2 a mile a day and use my gazelle for 20 min. I am also going 2 incoperate riding my block around my neighborhood (about 2miles) each day.
A real man's character shows when no ones watching.

You need to be on a very strict diet to achieve your goals. Miminimze foods high in fat and sugar. Best advice for diet if you can't catch it, pick it, or kill it don't eat it. No exceptions.

Running long distances will not make you faster in the 60 or in baseball. Find a good speed program w/ sprints galore. Also try to get outside as much as possible, and do high intensity stuff as much as possible.

Just rember in everything you do work as hard as possible, in the field, off it in your runnning, and you will achieve your goals.

By the way welcome here!

You want to get the most out of all your workouts. .5 is nothing, you should run alot more. I like to go around my block lets say 3 times. Thats 4 sides, but 2 of them are long. So one one long side, I sprint half of it, and the second half of the other long side I also sprint. I helps speed, edurance, the whole thing. And you sweat alot.
cleanup2007...

Losing 50 lbs. is unrealistic. 5'7'' 140lbs. is too small for a baseball player... between 150 and 160lbs. should be your range. Set short-term goals and work hard to meet them, while still keeping your long-term goals in mind.

I set goals constantly to try to gain weight... I want to weigh 155lbs. by July and 160lbs. by August. (I weigh 150 right now)

These are two different goals but use the same mentality.

I hope this helps and good luck!

Speed training is important. Also, DRINK MORE WATER!!!!! At least 64 ounces a day if not much much more. It's hard, but important. Talk to your parents about getting hooked up with a professional trainer or coach, they can help you track your progress and give you the right information. Also, that coach can help you train correctly so that you can see a little more speed. Remember, only another half step is a HUGE improvement.
yeah make sure you always stay motivated

my suggestion like you said, lose the weight first and then work on your speed

the most efficient way to lose weight is doing cardio work, so if you want to lose weight quicker do sprints instead of distance, ex. i do 10 100 yard sprints with a 30 sec. break in between each sprint (what this does is it makes your body go from start to stop and start again which makes your body work more in turn you'll lose a tremendous amount of weight) this will help you lose weight and work on your speed also

after you lose the weight to work on your speed more, do lots of short distance sprints, ex. do many 10 yard sprints trying to get started as quick as you can

im no professional but im going to recommend a work-out for you (jon doyle would like to hear your input(

Monday: Distance
Tuesday: 10 100 yard sprints 30 sec break in between sprints
Wednesday: Distance
Thursday: Off
Friday: 10 100 yard sprints
Saturdya: Distance and 10 100 yard sprints
Sunday: off
I would say try to lose weight and get faster at the same time. They are both related. In order to lose weight, you need a caloric defecit (less in than your body uses). This differs among people, so you need to figure out what works for you. A clean diet and routine will have you ripped in no time. Sprint and use a HIIT program for weight loss instead of distance running. As baseball players, we don't function aerobically. Focus on compound movements (squat, deadlift, bench press, rows, powercleans, military presses, etc). There is a ton of info on the web about specific workouts. Good luck.

I agree with jsorb. Also, the most effective way to lose weight is actually in weight training, the reason why is that when you finish your cardio workout, you stop burning calories. But in a strength training routine you continue to burn calories over the next 24-48 hours because your body is repairing itself.
Without saying your body type I'd say 5-7 140 is probably a little on the small side. Yes players can get by being that size but a little heaver would make you a little stronger and it would also make your goal that much closer. I'd aim for about 150. I was 5-7 145 freshman year and worked hard to gain weight. As a sophomore I was 5-8 155. This upcoming season I'll be a junior and I'm 5-8 160.
Just to say man... Your only 13, im 15 and if not for doing weights and training hard in the off-season i would not be on my team. But you will grow. And in tern you Quadracepts will get stronger and you will run tons faster. Im slow still but i make up for it will smart base running and huge hits.

My specs:

6' 3"
15 yrs. old
90 ft in 4.2

But i was at a camp, and the running coach said the MLB average is 4 seconds flat and you were fast enough. My man david ortiz runs it in 4.3 and so i idle him. But good luck man. Just bear in mind that some guys are built big and slow and others small and fast.

So my biggest suggestion is keep you confidence and start some weights. You will gain muscle and then you wont have to run.
