EC Dad. You are correct. Trying out with about 150 kids from 8 other teams in a showcase type tournament. It began, for us,in a tournament and an invite only tryout in AZ. From all of those kids they picked 16 to represent team AZ in the Mountain west NTIS. The AZ kids will be at a great advantage since it should be around the 90's.

It will feel like spring to us.

Piece of cake. Big Grin
I assume this is going to be played at the US Olympic Complex in Cary , correct? Is so it is an abslolutely awesome facility. They have a main field that is located right as you pull in. Then three fields located behind that one. The fields are maintained to ML specs and are asbsolutely beautiful. Its a great area with several nice motels and eating establishments close by. The only difference in the "Stadium" field and the other three are the grand stands. The weather is awesome this time of year as well. Lower humidity and temps during the day in the low 80's and at night low 70's to high 60's.

There are three malls close by one in Cary , one in Durham and one in Raleigh. Good luck I hope you enjoy the experience.
Coach May,
Yes this is being held at the USA Baseball National Training Facility.

Are there any cages or parks close by? I will need to take the boy to do some hitting and fielding to get loose.

(Don't make it sound too good, Soutpaw_Mom is having to stay behind with our Competitive Cheerleading Daughter. She is already not happy she is missing it.)

EC Dad-

My 13 yo son is on that team too! Too bad he plays football and broke his hand on Saturday! We are seeing the ortho dr. tomorrow and hopefully he can do something (wishful thinking, I know). My 15 yo is on the 16U red team as well. Our family has had a string of bad luck, hoping this will go a little better.
Thanks for the info Coach May and 55mom. They are using the Thomas Brooks Park for the 13U division but hopefully I can find a cage or open space to get him some warm-ups.

Are there any other parks around in case these fields are full?

BBfam,
I hate to hear about your son's hand. Timing is bad for this event, but is good for his healing before next spring. Hopefully we will run into you over there.
EC - nothing public really close to the facility, but if you want, pm me and maybe I can help with something close to where you are staying. There are cages at USA, but there doesn't seem to be space for warming up.... Coach May would know better than me on that.

Here is a link to Cary facilities - http://www.townofcary.org/depts/prhome.htm#facilities

Bond Park isn't too far from USA. Hwy 55 to Upchurch - changes to High House. Google Maps seems accurate to me as far as getting around.

eta: Bond does not have batting cages. I just called, you can use a field if it is not reserved... huh. no cages? I'll look further and get back.

There are tons of batting cages at Brooks Park. Each field has a set of batting cages. So you shouldnt have a problem with that. As far as fields to get loose on outside of these there is Green Hope HS on HWY 55 right before you turn onto the road the complex is on. You will have to go past it to get to the turn. Good luck
