It was an identification series for Mountain West baseball. It was a fun tournament. First exposure to show case format. They ended one game with the bases loaded, 2 outs and the home team down by 3 runs trying to go for the win. They ended up inviting 40 some kids to the tryouts from this tournament and 2 others that they ran this summer. It looked like they had 4 good teams that they picked kids from and 4 teams that hardly got a look. I don't know what their criteria is in selecting kids, but they passed on a few that looked pretty good to me.
After this tournament, they have a one day tryout next Sunday. Then those 25 kids that are picked represent Team AZ and play in Utah against the Team's Colorado, Utah and Nevada I think. Then they pick more kids for a tryout and out of those, they pick 25 to make the team that goes to NC in September to try out and compete for the National team. Interesting way of doing things.
